Spicy Eating @ Little Pepper
Little Pepper
PH: 718-939-7788133-43 Roosevelt Avenue
Flushing, NY 11354
So a friend has been talking about the spicy fish at Little Pepper…ALL THE TIME…”spicy fish spicy fish spicy fish”…so lo’ and behold, i opted to trek out there and try it out with another friend. Which oddly enough turned out to be the friend that first took the said raving friend in the first place. Awesome, getting to eat with the ‘source’ is always a plus, cause they’ll know exactly what to order. WOOT! (Yesh, this is the front of little pepper, but you got to go downstairs to get into the restaurant, not straight ahead. ie see pic of stairs on the right of storefront picture.)
They start you off with some pickled veggies and roasted peanuts.
Shredded Pork Stomach in Spicy Sauce: I felt this was really good, i liked the texture, and the flavor was on the mark. a nice little bite accented this one/two punch into a really nice appetizer.
Wonton in Red Chili Sauce:
These were nice and hot,
so when i ate them it was pretty warming inside.
As an appetizer, the small size works.
the hot oil, the scallions, everything meshed well together, and as you can see from the cross section view, they are on the smaller side (i felt it was the perfect size for an appetizer.) These were good, but nothing in comparison to White Bear’s rendition.
Pork Stomach with Garlic: this was probably the only non-spicy dish we ordered. Though it was good, nothing about it wow’d me, and since we were in the mood for spicy…i fear this dish was left ostracized and felt the wrath of our bias-ness.
Braised Sliced Fish in Spicy Soup Base: Now the main reason we went to Little Pepper….was cause of this dish. Boneless fish cooked in a spicy soup base. The fish was tender, firm and flavorful, and very well accented by the soup base.
This was probably the spiciest dish we had on the table. This being the first time I’ve ever had this, I felt it was really good. Though i have nothing really to compare it to (meaning this specific dish) it was a nice medley of spiciness and consistency, i liked it so much, i didn’t even eat rice with it, i just ate the pieces of fish in all their spicy glory. On the bottom of the dish, to my surprise, were spicy beansprouts. They were good too, but i felt they were missing something…couldn’t put my finger on it..
Summation: In the end, Ultimately the pig stomach and spicy fish won me over. I’ll definitely be coming back to try other dishes at this joint. I hear that the soup noodles are rather good, and not to mention the lamb (i totally love lamb.) If you’re into environment and surroundings, skip this place, as its a total hole in the wall (i love hole in the wall restaurants that are good) and it was pretty cheap; $34.80 for our entire meal. I can’t wait to get some more spicy fish….spicy fish spicy fish spicy fish….oh brother…

but damn, that braise sliced fish in spicy soup base looks super spicy. i can eat spicy food, but i don’t know about that. =/
wow it looks so good!!!
OMG. I miss good Asian food SOOOOO Much…The Chinese food in Europe SUCKS!!
@Me_The_Edible_Woman - odd, is the address at the top cut off for you?
dude.. that looks friggin good! seriously..
yumm!!!
The spicy fish soup looks good. The ingrediant you may have been missing is startch. Bean sprouts fill you up, but doesn’t give you that hearty full feeling.
I really like spicy food, and some of these dishes but I get tired of that ma la flavor. And boy, it’s oily!
that looks pretty good… even though I probably can’t handle it.
BTW, the peanuts are boiled, not roasted… and the first dish looks like pork stomach, but the next ‘pork stomach’ dish looks more like pork belly. Can you verify on the menu what the names are (for ordering purposes) please? Thanks. Is this Szhechuan food too? Cuz if so, I know what to order there too… yurms…
… so terrible … especially when I’m craving spicy food …
It’s ok, because I am definitely sending pictures of the Ddukbokki
that I made last night. *muahahaha*
@AzrihaEatsWorld -
Hm….okay. I am sorry for missing the address and focusing too much on your photos.
@moonbunny - that’s what they are called on the menu. http://www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com/bigmap/queens/menus/littlepepper.htm, and yesh tis be szhechy
@moolgishin - goodness, you are so ‘hot’ and evil.
@Me_The_Edible_Woman - thanks for the compliment!! its just that people have mentioned in the past about the tops or sides of my entries being cut off..but we figured it was the RSS reader or xanga subscription reader thingy. (^__^)
MMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm… Spicy food…. I have yet to try your dumpling tour. Maybe in the near future…
I dont know about the stomach part……everything else looks absolutely tasty
damn you, im hungry.
I must come here with my boyfriend! I felt like I’ve passed by this restaurant but didn’t think much of it…who knew it’s a red hot 4-alarm hot chinese restaurant! lol
I would like to see the interior of the restaurant! Thank you for a wonderful post!
