I’ve always wanted to try this place, as a friend had told me a few years back that its the best beef noodle soup she’s ever had. So one day, i decided to bring mum in to try it outz. nice clean environment, nice spoon, and pretty neat menus…the place looks really clean. and some people have informed me (though i haven’t validated) that the place had had a fire a few months back and they just opened back? hence the reason for cleanliness? whatever the case, the joint is uber clean. The first thing that i noticed when i sat down was this huge container with a lid and spoon in it, curiosity got the best of me and i immediately opened it and checked it out. It was a huge tub of pickled veggies oh man, i was already starting to like this place. WOO HOO!!!
Our food came rather quick, and smelt sooooo goooooooooood.
Cucumber: (yes that’s what its called on the menu *rolls eyes) sliced cucumbers with some cilantro, vinegar and some evoo. This was ok, the vinegar was definitely not powerful enough, signifying that this hadn’t been marinated long enough and mum felt it was way overpriced at $3.95.
Spicy Pig Tripe:
Now this was really good. a really nice bite to it, great ingredients, great firm texture not mushy at all, and the slivers of scallions really worked well with this cold dish.
$5.50
Minced Pork on Rice:
(AKA Old Beef on rice) Holey shnikees, this was ridiculously good here. They give you a tea egg, and a piece of fried/sauteed tofu, and lots of braised pork and sauce….not to mentioned i added a ton of pickled veggies from the tub on the table (only thing missing would be some slices of daikon)…this is now the best ‘Old Beef on Rice’ i’ve ever had in Queens….*max drool. $4.50
Beef Stew Noodle or Chow Fun Soup:
We got this with the noodles. As you can see in the pictures the noodles are quite thin, unlike other places that usually use a thicker noodle, however, they fended well with firm texture and ok flavoring. The broth is ok (better when hot), but what really stole the show was the beef, which was ridiculously good, the best i’ve ever had actually
$6.50Summation: two words, SHOW STEALER: Though i do admit, i’m use to my beef stew noodle soup being spicy, which was easily solved by dumping in a few pieces of the spicy pig tripe into my bowl and stirring it up some. And with the Beef pulling such huge weight in the noodle soup, it just compliments the noodles and broth into my hall of records as the best beef stew noodle soup i’ve ever had in flushing. I mean the beef literally falls apart/melts in your mouth…flavor and texture, truely amazing. I liked this place so much, i brought over dishes from this joint to my Sister’s place and her and her family loved them. I’ve also tried the Side Order Porkchops which were actually really good. The duck’s blood was only ok. As far as lunch goes, i highly recommend this place.

man i really need to go to this place !
I was thinking about going there for lunch this past Sunday, but opted for Flushing Mall instead. I’ll have to go there next time, and get the xiao long baos next door!
I cant believe you havent tried happy beef before the fire! You really missed out on the best beef noodles ever. I used to get happy beef noodles takeout every week and was so sad when they closed down for several months. I was so happy when they finally reopened only to discover that the noodles is completely different! The noodles used to be a lot thicker and springier(“don ah”)…almost like homemade, now it’s thin and like instant noodle. The soup used to be so flavorful and rich, now it’s watery. The beef used to be so flavorful and taste like it has been lovingly stewed for hours, now it’s bland and texture is different. I dont know whether they changed their chefs or because they changed their pots(years of caked on flavor?)…it’s such a tragedy.
I see Mom… and I see Canton Gourmettttt…. ahhhhh!!! I agree w/Mom the cucumbers are way overpriced…$4 for that plate… I could make those at home better. In fact I have a jar in my fridge you’re welcome to take it, I’m sure they’re super sour now cuz they’ve been in there a while lol. (Napa cabbage in there too cuz I like the cabbage, BF likes the cucumbers)
