Chinese Street Meat
Chinese Street Meat Vendor
Corner of Main Street and 39th Ave
Flushing, NY 11354
So Yumi had been telling me how she missed the lamb skewers from the street meat vendors in Flushing…all this time i thought she was talking about the two ‘american’ vendors on Main street on each side of the church…but low and behold she was talking about the chinese street meat vendors…which to my surprise…i never knew they even did skewers…well color me white and call me a rednick…..not.
our cook was a cheery fellow, that spoke mostly mandarin, but understood some english. He was talkting to Yumi in mandarin about me. He thought i was white…due to my pale complexion and big eyes…He was startled to find out that i was cantonese. Not to mention he had said Cantonese people are usually small and skinny…however, i was quite the opposite he stated…
Cooking - he takes skewers of meat out that are held up and smoked/cooked over hot burning wood briquettes. The smell was enticing and wonderful. While they cook on one side, he uses his gloved hand to sprinkle seasoning and spiciness onto the wonderful looking lamb. Then he turns them and repeats the process till he deems they are ready for our palates. (we got ours spicy, you can get it without spice if you want….*cough cough wussies cough*)
Finished product….we ordered six of these, three for her and three for me…at a dollar a pop…you can’t go wrong with trying these…they also come in beef and chicken meats.
Summation: Holey shnikees, these were RIDICULOUSLY good!!!! the intense juiciness, the hot piping right off the grill smokey flavor, and the spicyness just hits you all at once. Twas perfectly cooked, and we totally dogged these. At first i was surprised that Yumi said she could eat 50 of these, but after downing three, i saw what she meant. I highly recommend getting the lamb version, even if you don’t like lamb…not a single hint of gameyness whatsoever….*drool…
*Note: Thanks go to Yumi for taking the pics with her camera. woot!

Chinese Street Meat Vendor

Its actually kind of funny, I’ve been ordering so much from this dude that he actually gave me his cell number, so i can call my future large orders in and just come to pick them up.
Always get it extra spicy…oddly enough its always the girls that want it spicier than the guys….
Jeez just looking at these pics makes me want to get some…though i have yet to try the chicken or beef versions…i guess i’ll try those next.
hehehe though the guy is always seemingly making fun of me he’s a really nice guy….and if i got his permission…his cell should be up on the top too…so go ahead and order away my good peoplez. If not…then you’re gonna have to ask me for it. woot! Post a Comment

every time i’m in flushing, i get like 4 lambs….
mad good!
Looks juicy & yummy!
I’ve had them before at that corner doing a wedding photoshoot… they’re the bomb! then again, I was starving before I had them but tI’m sure they’re great anyway.
interesting…this guy is from Xinjiang, China. All over China there are Xinjiangnese doing exactly this. Too bad permits are so hard to get to do things like this in SF. We hardly have cart stands like these here.
Awesome!
Too bad we don’t have things like that in Chicago. Most of the street vendors here are latino but they make some good stuff too.
Also, I am surprised the vendor thought you were white! It is strange how some Asian people stereotype themselves and think anyone who doesn’t fit that narrow mold must be something else. Odd.
The one on 8ave and 61st BK is also insanely good!
for $1, you can buy 100 skewers in China
I’ve heard good things about him but since I’m in Flushing so rarely I’m always like, $1 skewers or… dumplings T_T
You should try the one on 8th ave and 60th st by the N train station. The lines can get so long, especially in the summer. (: yummm haha
your pictures look like an area where we recently got kabobs, but we were in Jackson Heights outside a TD Bank and our vendor was Indian, i think.
In the Phillipines, I ate weird meat that came in the form of a ball that was pretty good. When I tried the same mysterious product in a 7-11 in Japan, the flavor was more on the fail side.
Anyway, next time I go to NY, I will try one of those… or 6…
yummy
Looks very good!!
That’s from a camera phone? WTH. Which one? Hecka clear.
I got them once when i was in a rush i down one of those so quick i forgot i ate them.
