So Polar Bear had told me of a seafood market in DC that she had gone to with her pops. Though i think she purposely did not go into detail so that we’d be surprised as to what she would take us to eat, boy was it a surprise. But the gianormous lines almost gave away her ‘secret’.

I felt the prices were relatively in-expensive. What’s neat is the ‘restaurant’ actually lies on a barge, and at the time it was low tide, so we had to ‘squat’ to order. from the pics below you can see the nice lady that took our order…not to mention the lovely cakes/pies right behind her…(which the girls would later on devour, but those pics will be in my personal blog. lol.)

    FOOD!!!!

Everybody online seemed to walk away with crab cakes, so why not follow?

Crab Cake Platter (choice of two sides) $9.95: I got french fries and mac and cheese. They also give you a yeast bun they make themselves, a small container of cocktail sauce, and tarter sauce.. I also got a lemonade ($2.00), the lemonade was freshly made, and really good…not overly sweet, nor overly sour…it was perfect. my only gripe is they don’t have straws…

Holey shnikees, this is one of the best freaking crab cakes i’ve ever had. I tore into this and could not believe how flavor jam packed this was. I didn’t need to use the lemon, nor supplied tarter/cocktail sauces. (though i hear the tarter sauce is really good [from other reviews], and feel foolish for not having partaken in it.) I had to take a close up of the meat (pic below) it was so succulent and plentiful…not overdosed with bread crumbs/ing or other infamous fillers.

Macaroni and cheese: this was unf*ckingly believably good. they make it with a nice cheesey crust that they give you lots of pieces of. The creamy, but not mushy, mac and cheese contrasted very well with said crust in texture, and the taste did not let up in the barrage of memory mayhem that brings you back to good ole fashion comfort food.

    Corn Pudding:
this was also really good. the corn niblets inside were fresh and burst with juicy flavor, only enhancing the pudding/meal.  no stale/old corn, this shtuff was made fresh. What i liked the most was that none of the flavors over powered the other, it was a perfect blend, not overly salty, nor overly watery..a ‘perfect pudding’.

Deviled Eggs: You could tell that they have been sitting around (in a fridge most likely, not out on a porch or anything like that) and not freshly scooped upon order, however, you can tell there was still some love in them, and if that didn’t convince you, the sprinkle of paprika and the flavor could sell you a bridge on a remote desert island, but i must add, these aren’t better than my devil eggs. heeeee.

Fried Potatoes: I looked at this and was like wth…it was ugly…and whats so great about fried potatoes? Well this dish decided to slap me for judging a book by its cover, as since i initially didn’t know what it was and took a bite, i almost couldn’t tell what it was…the flavoring disguises it from what its main ingredient is…and i’d have to say hands down…this is the most flavorful and super appealing fried potatoes i’ve ever had. I super recommend these if you ever go to Jimmy’s Grill (these hit on the same level as the Irish Potato Cakes from RiRa’s.)

Summation: I should also mention the fries were pretty good, crispy outside, potatoey inside…but in all honestly they didn’t stand a chance against any of the other sides…i admit, i got the fries as a ‘filler-upper’ incase the food wasn’t good. Someone had also gotten the Stewed Tomato as a side dish, which was devoured and proclaimed as being good…apparently another dish that’s look did not do it justice (as seen being eaten by the lovely Asian girl on the lefthand side of the above pic). On the menu it says “Down home cooking on the Wharf.” I’d second that motion and forward it in a heartbeat. The total cost of my meal was $13.15, but I confess that this meal was made even better by the wonderful company of friends. Priceless…
