| | Ok, if you know me in real life, you would know that i'm not at all into instant or frozen foods (shway more into freshly cooked foods..etc...etc.), unless it's really freaking good or atleast somewhat healthy, i mean even the instant noodles (dolly noodles) i eat are rather on the healthier side (not fried but instead dried). But YueJau had had some frozen/instant law mai gai and thought it was really good...she left some in my freezer...and i had totally had forgotten about them....
then one day i was totally starving and saw them in the freezer...i couldn't remember how i got them...thought maybe even Feisty, my little sis, had left it in my freezer...
well whatever, i was shtarving and would buy whoever a new one, so i busted one open.
snip snip | slide | whoa...two to tango. |
now mind you, law mai gai (jun jui law mai gai) or what it says on the label of this badboy, is one of my favorite dimsum dishes....so there wasn't much hesitation here.
pot, steamer rack, and water.
| when water boils, add LMGs to steam rack.
| cover and let boil for 20 minutes.
|
after the 20, the leaves should be pretty much soaked and HOT, becareful, these are REALLY REALLY HOT.
i used tongs. | put them in the center of the plate. | then peeled off the leaf.
|
whoa, this smelt great, looked awesome, and was nice and piping hot. but i bet there wasn't gonna be that much shtuff in it.
holey crap was i wrong...it was packed with meat, shrooms, and even a dried shrimp!
As you can see the steam got to my camera, it actually took me a while to get the close up shots. but when i finally did, it was worth it.
Summation: you can find these for around $3 in your neighborhood chinese grocery store. Prime foods is a pretty good label, they also have AMAZING XO dumplings, that have a really nice bite to them. Granted that there are the promised ingredients in these LMGs, but don't be fooled, there was very little shrooms in mine (suppose to be shitake), one dried shrimp per one i had...and, not to mention, in the ingredients are MSG and lard...though i'm guessing they use lard and msg to make them in the dimsum joints i go to, too...and chances are...in the dimsum joints you go to too..Another thing is i don't know if this frozen item is something new or something old...*shrugs.
only real drawback i see is that there are no microwaving/convection oven instructions...so u can't eat this at work unless you have the time and resource of a stovetop to steam it...boooo.....oh wellz....
All in all, i highly recommend these as an "instant/frozen/i'm hungry and will eat ur lunch when ur not looking" type of food. They were really good, and very easy to prepare.
Appreciation ----------------------------------------------------------- I just wanted to thank everyone with the comments, messages, emails, etc..of support and encouragement. I admit there was a time where I was just gonna level off from doing this site and just keep the pictures to myself, but with your awesome emails/messages it's really given me the 'umf' i needed to maintain this site, not to mention the two other xangas i also groom and maintain.
I'd also like to address the "issue" of your questions that are asked and the recent huge slowdown of my responses, but it is due, in large, to the fact that i can no longer access xanga at work. So please be patient! i will do my best with your questions!!!
Again, thanks again for all your support!! YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
