Fat Nation Trio @ Amazing 66 Restaurant

Amazing 66 Restaurant
PH: 212-334-0099

66 Mott Street
New York, NY 10013

So Alpha's been raving about this restaurant called Amazing 66 in chinatown. So guess where he picked to have his birthday dinner?

Alphatrion, JCServant, and Azriha

ALLEZ CUISINE!!!
am6.jpg
Start off with the free soup, that never tastes like its free. Nice and 'ching' (clear) with some hearty ingredients. its a good way to start a good meal.
am7.jpgam8.jpg

am9.jpg
First dish up is "Loung Lay Cau" which is basically flounder sauteed with some shrooms, snap peas, ginger and scallions. This was actually really fresh and good. $20.95
am10.jpg

am11.jpg
One of the dishes we definitely wanted to try was the "Golden Prawns over Twin Rice". This was really good, the rice they used and the ingredients piled on top was not only plentiful, but rich in flavor. It complimented the rice really well. It seems from looking at the other tables, almost everyone orders this when they are there. $25.95
am12.jpgam13.jpgam14.jpg
The waiter was nice enough to step back as i took pictures of the dish, then he quickly bowled it for all of us...the shrimp was quite succulent.
am15.jpg

am16.jpg
Alpha had also wanted to try their fried tofu with strimp paste. This was good...but not as good as High Pearl. lol. $13.95
am17.jpg

am18.jpg
We did get alot of fried foods so i thought getting a nice veggie would balance it all out...hehehe not. $8.95
am19.jpg

am20.jpg
And the dish that i was really looking forward to try, the one that you have to order a day in advance to get at your table. The Law Mai Gai. $33.00
am21.jpg
Its a whole chicken, that's stuffed with law mai gai (sticky rice) and deep fried. I felt this was the best dish on the table, the crispy flavorful outside accompanied by the warming law mai gai inside that had alot of ingredients in it just sat really well with me...though it was more on the oilier side, one cannot help but notice the contrast of the two textures followed by the flavors...it will keep you off balance.
am22.jpg

am23.jpg
Just three of us, all the waiters/waitresses kept looking at our table...i honestly don't think we ordered that much food....

am24.jpg
Then the 'tong siu' that was accompanied by the meal...got to love our check. LOL.
am25.jpgam26.jpg
Summation: Asking around, alot of people felt that the food at Amazing 66 is pretty good, however, a little bit on the pricier side. Which was stated by a number of constituents that have partook in the festivities of this very busy restaurant. Most of the time you'd have to get a reservation in order to even get to have dinner here, and alot of the specials dishes must be preordered the day before. When we ate there, there was quite a hustle and bustle, and i can see why alot of people would like this place as its cleaner than most other staple restaurants of chinatown, and the food it offers seems to be 'up to trends' as Hong Kong supposedly. I definitely recommend this place to eat for special occasions, but i don't see it as a place i'd visit often and repeat alot. But if you do go, i highly recommend the Law Mai Gai.

I've never been there, and I always eat in chinatown. Gonna try it one of these days, even though it is on the pricier side. I like going to Congee on bowery and Cantoon Garden on elizabeth (across from the police station).

I just read about the chicken wings at Rainbow Cafe (as your first commenter mentioned) and want to try it... a whole chicken though huh?  That's hot.  But just the wings is like $7.50 for 4 pieces... I think I can handle that better
