Return to Satay

So Jelly Bao has been telling me about a bunch of really good places to eat, so i figured i'd thank her by taking her to one of the places i like to eat at. Though this was a little difficult as Jelly has eaten at a lot of restaurants that i like/have eaten at...so to surprise her...was a tad bit difficult...but sure enough i had this place in mind. WOOT!

rsatay1
Hainanese Chicken: a reader had seen my review on the place and had urged me to try the Hainanese Chicken at Satay. I honestly didn't even know that Hainanese Chicken was served at Satay. It was pretty good. (not the best i've had, but pretty good. Best is still a fight between Sentosa, Penang Elmhurst, and Taste Good.) (one thing to definitely note, the cook's blade isn't sharp enough. Instead of cutting/chopping through the chicken bone, it's shattering it [usually cause the blade is dull]...which is a little annoying as you'll have a lot of bone shards to spit out.)

rsatay3
Malaysian Cheung Fun: Whenever i go to Satay, this is a MUST GET dish for me. I feel they do this dish sooooo freaking well...the mixture of sauce, the deep fried egg on top is always amazing and there's a small tiny portion that has spicy sauce, so if you want you can always kick it up a notch. I highly recommend this dish. (i have yet to find this dish at other Malaysian Restaurants...lol)

rsatay4
Sarang Burung: Quite the common dish to order at a Malaysian Restaurant. I feel so far, this restaurant has the best rendition of this dish i've had before. The taro is always cooked perfectly crispy on the outside and warm and gooey and welcoming inside.

rsatay5
Sizzling Tofu and Ground Pork: another staple dish thats almost always ordered at Malaysian restaurants, i feel this one and the one at Taste Good are great competitors of flavor and richness...however, Taste Good always win cause of their neat little trick of perfectly cooked egg on the underside.

rsatay6
Summation: I always love it when people come eat with me and let me choose the place and pick the food...I get to order everything i'm in the mood for *greedy laughter*

best part? LEFTOVERS TO BRING TO WORK THE NEXT DAY! WOO HOO!!!

Ultimately, Satay is still really good, and i do highly recommend feasting there. The Malaysian Cheung Fun is a MUST GET!

This child of Malaysian parents approves of Sanur in Chinatown but my staples are Hokkien mee and curry noodles unless I'm actually in the motherland.

I actually don't think this place is as good as Curry Leaves on Main St! It got a "C" rating by the health department and it's not as nicely decorated but I think it tastes better :)

@mkazama - great choices. I will definitely check out Sanur :D

@sweetchocolatecakes - Oh really? I'm totally down to try new places that are better than the places i like! what would you recommend at Curry Leaves? :D (admittedly those healthcode rating system has nothing to do with how good the food is...my favorite restaurant has failed completely and even closed down on several occasions :P)

umm.. I get the usual Mee Goreng, Char Keow Teow, and Malaysian Fried Rice. (the Achat isn't that good. The one at Satay is pretty good though.)
haha really? What's your favorite restaurant? I'm waiting for Buffalo Cantina to re-open to do the Suicide 6 wings challenge! :)

btw since you're into reviewing restaurants and trying new food, have you taken the Phaal Challenge at Brick Lane's Curry House and tried Pangsri in Chinatown? Thailand's royalties has been there. Thai Angel and Saha near soho are also pretty good.
