Dimsum @ Oriental East in MD

So oddly enough Polar Bear wanted to take us to Dimsum…which i have heard many horror stories about…but i’m up for trying…interesting things…one thing that startled me was that we had gotten there before the place was even opened….and there was a line almost out to the street (after the line already went the length of the ‘block’ :shocked) and as you can see, we are not special, we had to wait online….
Inside the place was packed, but the decore/environment was nice and clean.
then came the barrage of dimsum, as we were all starving having had to wait so long for a table….we ordered almost everything that came our way.
we ordered so much we had to stack our food, those aren’t empty containers that are on top of each other!
One dish that wow’d me was the shrimp in tofu…the tofu outside was actually still crispy even though you can tell it had been steamed with the sauce on top of it…sooo good.
this place was surprisingly good, but i still had gripes. Summation: We waited on line for 1.5 hours for a table, which is kind of unacceptable. Either they skipped us, or they were just being stupid that day. The Hostest was very rude to us, and some of the wait staff was rude to us too. We had ordered some cups of water, and the waitress gave us a dirty look and said there’s no room on our table for water cause of all the food, we kindly told her that we’d make room, and we did. I feel bad for not having more close up shots of the foods that won me over at this joint: The Ha Cheung (shrimp rice rolls) were really good, the roast pork rice rolls were really bad (the roast pork was over cooked (should have powered it a little with some corn starch) and they should have shoved some cilantro in there, the hagow (shrimp dumplings) was good, the siu mai was really good, the sharks fin dumplings were good, the beef balls were really good, veggies and tripe were good, the sticky rice i ordered looked really good but it was dogged before i could get to it…but we were stuffed when we were done.. All in All, the food was good, but not 1.5 hour wait good. But i admit…with the group of new friends i went with…the wait didn’t really feel that long…and…i’d probably wait that long again with them.

WOW!!! You guys waited that long?! People line up super early there. IT’S CRAZYNESS ^_^ I remember the first time I went… I couldn’t believe how fast it got packed. But Oriental East definitely is one of the best dim sum places around the area. Next time you show us the good dim sum places in NYC ^_^
i thought you were from nyc. are you from the dc/md/va area?
if you’re in va, you should check out the vietnamese restaurants in eden. i wouldn’t recommend going to the four sisters restaurant even thought it looks really nice, but one of the other joints. my personal favorite is huong viet, but there are a lot of places down there.
absolutely fan-@%##!%-tasticly omnomnomish!
Stupid question, but what is dimsum. I live in the burbs and am super sheltered obviously lol. Teach me the ways, Azriha.
im hungry
@budafli - whoa, i suck, for answering this a year later, but i’m from NYC. i was just visiting the DC area.
@heyjulsiscoo - dimsum literally means ‘a touch of the heart’ the whole point of dimsum is to bring people together while eating small dishes of good food.
