  • Return to JoJu: Attack of the JoJu Monster!

    JoJu

    joj1

Ever since my post aired a few weeks ago about JoJu, many commentors have made suggestions on other things to try…One that has always caught my Attention was the JOJU MONSTER! The tale of two of JoJu’s sandwiches MERGING and then consummating the deal with a fried egg…how could i not partake?

    JoJuNew1

Jelly told me they had just gotten in a shipment of Durian for the Durian Milkshake and recommended it, who was I to deny this oral pleasure?! Mum decided to partake in the ritual of devouring Banh Mi so i ordered two more. I like to call in my order right when i get out of the subway, so by the time i get there, it’s ready

    Lemongrass Chicken: $4.25

    JoJuNew3

Mum had really wanted to try this one. It is on the regular menu, and it is actually really good. I got it with spicy mayo.

    Green Eggs & Ham: $5.50

    JoJuNew3a

This is so ridiculously good. This is not on their regular menu, but i highly recommend you try this…If the green sauce doesn’t win you over, the two fried eggs will.

    JoJu Monster: $6.75

    JoJuNew4

And of course the moment i had been waiting for…Banh Mi number 1 and Banh Mi number 3 on their Menu…MERGED! with a fried egg…

    JoJuNew5

We look to the left, and see this Monster truly is HUGE!

    JoJuNew5a

We look to the right! and are greeted with a just as big other half….

    JoJuNew6

Dissecting the JoJu Monster…This becomes my favorite Banh Mi sandwich at JoJu. Hands down, i can order this time and time again and not get sick of it…the hardest part? trying to get all the ingredients into your mouth at the same time. LOL. cause seriously, all the ingredients together orchestrate bliss in the mouth.

    JoJuNew2

I love the way this sign is drawn…I think i’m gonna have another Banh Mi Party soon…and order a bunch of these. LOL.

Summation: Ultimately, i’ve actually been back to JoJu a lot. I’ve tried their

Soy garlic wings, which are good, but i recommend eating them there rather than getting them for take out.

Black Sesame Milk Shake…Ridiculously good! wish they served Black Sesame Ice cream. lol.

Durian Milk Shake….also really good but some won’t be able to handle the smell. but if you like Durian, you’ll love this milk shake.

looking forward to trying, Spring rolls, Summer rolls, original crispy chicken wings, Vegetarian Ham Banh Mi (last banh mi sandwich which i haven’t tried yet), Green Tea Milkshake!!, and whatever’s left on the menu….lol.

    But i’d have to say…great prices…great food…and now my favorite….JOJU MONSTER!

    woot!

  • I cook too much meat for a dinner

    I cooked dinner.

I made a simple egg drop soup.

I made a simple pasta dish…which was just suppose to be veggies and pasta…but for some reason i added ground beef…

Which was unecessary since i did a garlic steak….Steak turned out really good…but it was like competing with the ground beef in the pasta…which was such a waste…well atleast next time i will try to pay attention and not add ground beef to my vegetable pasta…..

Ultimately, the meal turned out very very good…. atleast that’s what she told me.

So Jelly has been telling me about a lot of good food places in the area of Elmhurst of late. One place was Lao Bei Fang for dumplings. Oddly enough i have actually eaten from them before, however, at their old location…but totally furgot to go back and do a review…I remember very cheap and good dumplings…I got out of the office early so Crazy and i met up to stuff our faces from Lao Bei Fang…it was uber crowded inside (dinner rush) so we decided to snatch up items and bring it back to feast.

    lbf2

We got a lot of good shtuff, we were starving!

    lbf3

First up, the steamed meat and veggie bao…which was big and pretty good…and only 75 cents.

    lbf4

Fresh Pork and Chives Fried Dumplings. Nice crispy outside, good warm tasty innards. $7.00 for 20.

    lbf5

    lbf6

Fresh Pork and Chives Steamed Dumplings. The skin reminded me a lot like Chinese Korean Dumplings, but the innards and flavor were completely different and very very good….drool. $2.75 for 8.

    lbf7

    lbf8

I busted out some Canceaux sauce that i buy from Maine; it’s a sweet and spicy sauce….soooo freaking good….added the perfect kick to the dumplings.

Summation: I was really happy with all the dumplings…though admittedly the fried ones would probably have been better if eaten on location. Steamed ones were really good too….

And the steamed bao…for 75 cents!?!??!? was awesome. I plan on getting more and trying more items…and of course bring some to my awesome co-workers. LOL

Thanks for the reminder/recommend Jelly. WOOT!

    CHEERS!!!

  • Carvel Flying Saucers

It fascinates me that they’ve got so many different flavors for the flying saucers.

I’ve tried coffee and Pistachio and of course chocolate.

They were really good…but i think i’ll be forever faithful and in love with the original…Vanilla.

  • The Best Lobsters I’ve Ever had…

…came from a truck on the side of the road in Maine.
    lobsterman1
I use to rent a cottage up in Camden, Maine. Upon asking my landlord, where’s the best lobster she’s ever had; She asked to cook or sit down and eat? i replied, to cook! To this day i remember her laugh and her telling me, “a beat up truck off the side of the road!” I was young and a tad skeptical…but she gave me the directions.

    lobsterman2
at the time it was 3 dollars a lb for 1.75-2lb lobsters. We bought a dozen. (there were 6 of us at the time)

    lobsterman3
of course it didn’t hurt that i had bought a lobster pot to cook all the lobsters at once.

    lobsterman4
Here’s the first batch…and from that day forward…This has been the guy i go to for lobster to cook. Believe you me…it doesn’t get better than that. However, i don’t really stay at the Cottage anymore, i stay about 2 hours south in Portland, ME. So after getting lobsters from him for 3 years…i had stopped.

    lobsterman5
6 Years later…he’s still on the highway, and now i’m much wiser in transporting lobsters and such…I gladly purchased two from him for 20 bucks. Still the cheapest and freshest. I’ve purchased fish from him too, really really good shtuff.

    lobstermanearly
Here’s a Pic of the lobsterman. He’s actually taught me a lot of great tricks in transporting lobster for over 10 hours, and also great tips on how to cook lobster. (good grief i look fullawful in this picture).

You may ask why is his lobster so good?
Answer: He catches it in the morning. I buy from him in the early afternoon (he’s usually sold out by 2pm). and i cook it that evening. People that don’t know the difference between the flavors of a hard shell and a softshell and People that like their lobster rolls with tons of mayo or sauce will not understand this. Maine Lobster that has never been put into ANY OTHER WATER but Maine water is so naturally sweet, you’ll never need butter or salt or lemon or garlic or ginger to eat it. I’ve never put anything on my steamed/boiled lobsters that i cook myself. Don’t believe me? Go to Maine and buy lobster from a Lobsterman, i guarantee you’ll know the difference. negative side? its difficult to eat lobster in nyc. Only when i’m really really fiending will i give in to a lobster roll perhaps….or Buoy 1…

I saw this place a while ago on Tripe D and had liked the food a lot. It wasn’t till Feisty reminded me of the joint again that i had never done a review on it. So it was high time i return to this joint and feeeeeed!!!!

    bensBEST3

you walk in, you look to the right. You can see all the wonderful salads and meats they have to offer. all of the salads, meats, etc..etc that you see here are made fresh on a daily basis.

    bensBEST2

look to the left…so much i want to try…yet only so many meals in one day…

    bensBEST4

look more to the left….whoa i spy some dogs and some knishes!

    bensBEST5

Frank on a Roll was $3.50…expensive…but worth it…has a really nice snap to it. yum.

    bensBEST6

Overstuffed Hot Pastrami Sandwich: One of the best i’ve ever had…love love love the fact that its not overly salty…you really don’t need any condiments…but their home made kraut and home made mustard….accompanies this sandwich so well…. $11.95

Summation: I confess i have been dying to try their stuffed cabbage and kreplach…which i think will be happening soon. Once you walk into the joint you know immediately you’ve stepped into an authentic kosher deli. All the food is home made with all original recipes. Very good food. Highly recommend….and definitely hard to keep the waistline slim when this joint is right next to my house…*sigh…WHATEVER! STUFF YO FACE!!!

So far this is the second place that Guy Fieri has recommended that i’ve liked a lot (first being Valencia Luncheria) so i think i’ve found the food network star that i find a kinship too. WOOT!

*note: i highly recommend getting grilled onions with the frank on a roll, and definitely get kraut and mustard on the side. soooooo gooooood!

    CHEERS!

  • More good grub @ Costco

I needed groceries as did Crazy so we hit up the ole Costco in my neighborhood. We was famished when we were done so we decided to get some of their grub.
    chickbake1
I got a Berry Smoothie ($1.45) and split a Hot Turkey & Provolone and a Chicken Bake with Crazy.

    chickbake2
Hot Turkey & Provolone Sandwich (Oven browned turkey, provolone, red onions, tomatoes, basil garlic mayonnaise on a toasted torta roll) This is always sooooo fucking good…it’s always hot and hits the spot. $3.99

    chickbake3
Chicken Bake (Chicken Breast, Cheese, Bacon, and ceasar dressing) This is ridiculously good, and at its price of $2.99 it’s quite a steal. Now not that i’d recommend you eat this every day, but its definitely pretty good.

The thing i like about Costco’s “Food Court” is that they make all of their food from ingredients that they have. You can actually purchase each of the ingredients throughout the store and make your own versions of the Chicken Bake, Pizza, Dogs, Italian sausages, Hot sandwiches…etc…etc. (I even heard that some Costco’s even sell Churro kits. ) Most interesting thing? all cash.
