So Crazy has been raving about this place for a while, and i’ve been swamped with life, and unable to check it out…till recently i decided to reorganize my life and slow it down a bit. With that slow down i was able to catch up with Crazy and also try out JoJu. I’ve been fiending for some Banh Mi for a while, and Banh Mi Saigon isn’t exactly readily accessible to me, so i figured, WHY NOT?!?!!?

    joju2

It’s a really clean establishment, and there’s a pretty big menu for such a small place. And not to mention there’s always a cute girl behind the counter to readily take your order. lol who could ask for anything more?

    joju2a

But this little sign is what got me all teary eyed….they had me at fried egg….*tear (They put an egg in any sandwich you order prepared to your liking…for me if i sit down and eat, i order runny, however, if its take out i go for the medium…that always works out great!)

    joj3

We were only going to get three sandwiches and split them, however, due to a miscommunication, Crazy ended up getting four. oh well…all in my mouth. (oh yeah, Kung Fu Tea is also near there, so i got the Drinks while Crazy got the Modern BANH MI!) *note: the drink on the right is JoJu’s Thai Iced Tea. it was really good, and i liked that it wasn’t overly sweet like a lot of other Thai Iced Tea’s I’ve had $2.50.

    joju4

First up was the #17 Linsanity (named and numbered after the one and only former New York Knick Jeremy Lin!) this sandwich contains Taiwanese style “three cup chicken” with spicy green sauce. good grief the spicy green sauce has crack in it, so you can be sure to become addicted. This Banh Mi is definitely one of my top 2 favs at JoJu currently. $5.99

    joju5

#6 Kakuni Pork Belly (Japanese slow-braised pork belly): This sandwich is also very good. I highly recommend eating it before it gets “cold” I liked it, but it was a little bit too fatty for me (which i’m sure for some of my readers that would be right up their alley and PERFECT) $5.25

    joju6

#4 Beef Bulgogi (thinly sliced rib eye beef with Kimchi): this sounded a little weird and interesting all at once…so i had to try this. This is actually really good. I definitely prefer this over the pork belly. Number 3 on my top 3 from JoJu. The Bulgogi isn’t over-salted and plays with with the kimchi, then enter the pickled vegetables and that little bite. $5.00

    joju7

#15 Green Eggs and Ham (Vietnamese Ham, fried egg [cooked to your liking], and spicy green sauce) Oh good grief…i wasn’t thinking this to be anything special, but this is in my top 2 (this Banh Mi battles the Linsanity for first place). sooooo gooood. For now, if i can only get one sandwich at JoJu, it would probably be this..the oh so tasty spicy green sauce…and the medium cooked egg just kicks it up a perfect notch. In the infamous words of Anthony Bourdain…I am an egg-slut $5.99

Summation: I am and have been going back to try other items on their rather extensive menu (soy garlic glaze crispy wings!) …and lets not forget they have some pretty nice items that aren’t on the Menus (as you’ll see Linsanity, Green Eggs and Ham and JoJu monster are not on their menu)

Another great thing i love about this place is all sandwiches range from around $4-6. TAKE THAT SUBWAY! BANH MI ALL IN YO FACE! sorry had to let that one out. (for those that don’t know, the price you’re paying for is an entire foot long sandwich, not just the halves in the first sandwich picture, i split them with Crazy…for some reason i felt the need to disclaimer that….)

I also like to get all my sandwiches medium spicy, which means they add spicy mayo to it…if you like a little bite in your sandwich i highly recommend, and if you’re a hardcore spicy you can ask for ultimate spicy which i’m guessing they’ll add some jalapeno slivers.

There’s also a number of drinks/smoothies/slushies that i really want to try.

I’ve tried their thai iced tea, which was not overly sweet and will definitely be liked by people that don’t like super sweet thai iced tea. (I definitely want to try their black sesame incantations!)

Also you have no fear of ordering eggs in your sandwiches as they pack your sandwiches really well…you don’t have to worry about spillage or leakage of any sort…(unless your and idiot and swing the bag upside down or hold it upside down…then thats all on you…but whatever, you know you’d still eat it.)

Highly recommend this place…though not necessarily the type of Banh Mi Traditional enthusiasts would enjoy, however, their modern twist has been a welcomed surprise. Great Bread, Great ingredients, Great service…if you want a quick bite and are in the neighborhood…these awesome BANH MI will definitely hit the spot.

Return to JoJu: Attack of the JoJu Monster!

Ever since my post aired a few weeks ago about JoJu, many commentors have made suggestions on other things to try…One that has always caught my Attention was the JOJU MONSTER! The tale of two of JoJu’s sandwiches MERGING and then consummating the deal with a fried egg…how could i not partake?

    JoJuNew1

Jelly told me they had just gotten in a shipment of Durian for the Durian Milkshake and recommended it, who was I to deny this oral pleasure?! Mum decided to partake in the ritual of devouring Banh Mi so i ordered two more. I like to call in my order right when i get out of the subway, so by the time i get there, it’s ready

    Lemongrass Chicken: $4.25

    JoJuNew3

Mum had really wanted to try this one. It is on the regular menu, and it is actually really good. I got it with spicy mayo.

    Green Eggs & Ham: $5.50

    JoJuNew3a

This is so ridiculously good. This is not on their regular menu, but i highly recommend you try this…If the green sauce doesn’t win you over, the two fried eggs will.

    JoJu Monster: $6.75

    JoJuNew4

And of course the moment i had been waiting for…Banh Mi number 1 and Banh Mi number 3 on their Menu…MERGED! with a fried egg…

    JoJuNew5

We look to the left, and see this Monster truly is HUGE!

    JoJuNew5a

We look to the right! and are greeted with a just as big other half….

    JoJuNew6

Dissecting the JoJu Monster…This becomes my favorite Banh Mi sandwich at JoJu. Hands down, i can order this time and time again and not get sick of it…the hardest part? trying to get all the ingredients into your mouth at the same time. LOL. cause seriously, all the ingredients together orchestrate bliss in the mouth.

    JoJuNew2

I love the way this sign is drawn…I think i’m gonna have another Banh Mi Party soon…and order a bunch of these. LOL.

Summation: Ultimately, i’ve actually been back to JoJu a lot. I’ve tried their

Soy garlic wings, which are good, but i recommend eating them there rather than getting them for take out.

Black Sesame Milk Shake…Ridiculously good! wish they served Black Sesame Ice cream. lol.

Durian Milk Shake….also really good but some won’t be able to handle the smell. but if you like Durian, you’ll love this milk shake.

looking forward to trying, Spring rolls, Summer rolls, original crispy chicken wings, Vegetarian Ham Banh Mi (last banh mi sandwich which i haven’t tried yet), Green Tea Milkshake!!, and whatever’s left on the menu….lol.

    But i’d have to say…great prices…great food…and now my favorite….JOJU MONSTER!

    woot!

Banh Mi Fries, Kimchi Fries @ JoJu!!!

So i had seen on JoJu’s facebook that they had posted something about Banh Mi Fries and Kimchi fries…and i love fries..and the pics they posted looked amazing..and Jelly had also mentioned to me that i should definitely try them…so why the hell not?

    New Fries Menu:

    Jobanh1

    - click for larger menu –

    Jobanh2

Fries came crispy and hot and oh so ready to be dug in to, had to get them both “loaded” aka with fried egg on top!

    Kimchi Fries (loaded): $5.25

    Jobanh3

Seasoned & battered french fries topped with mild spicy mayo, kimchi, chopped scallions, cilantro and jalapenos. (got this loaded AKA FRIED EGG ON TOP!!!)

    Jobanh4

The crunchiness of the kimchi and fries mixed well together, only amplified by the warm egg yolk. If the tiny kick from the kimchi didn’t get you, the spicy mayo added another one, and then another tiny spicy bump from the jalapenos. All in all, very well done. Love how they get the fries so crispy!

    Banh Mi Fries (Loaded): $5.25

    Jobanh5

Seasoned & Battered French fries topped with special house sauce, mild spicy mayo, spicy green sauce, pickled daikon & carrots, chopped cilantro and jalapenos. (got it loaded again so topped with a fresh fried egg)

    Jobanh6

I really love all the vegetables in this, all the different flavors stacked on top of each other…each bite tasting different from the next….I find myself trying to get as many of the ingredients as i can into my mouth at once.

    Jobanh7

and then just popping that warm runny egg all over the mess of goodness….just completes this work of art…every bite different…sooo worth the calories… lol

    Jobanh8

So if i had to compare the two…I’m afraid to say, the Banh Mi fries definitely beat out the Kimchi fries…and since they are the same price, i feel the Banh Mi fries are definitely best bang for buck!!! :D

Summation: Everyone that i’ve taken to have Banh Mi fries loves them…and can’t get enough of them…Even my mom loves them…. I highly recommend them…if you are a JoJu friend, this is definitely a no brainer.

What’s even better is that if you order them via take out…you don’t have to worry about the fries getting soggy, as they crisp up (well done) the fries so that the crispy-ness holds up pretty well against the fried egg (of course i’m not saying leave it in the box for four hours before eating it…of course it will get soggy…)

    Another great “JoJu Invention” lol.

  • My Favorite Ramen: Green Tea Ramen

    greenT1
I once bought these on a whim as to try them out and see if they were any good. Oddly enough it was in Maine that i busted one of these out (after i had gotten tired of eating lobster…(yes…its possible to have lobster overload ) And from that day forth, i’ve not eaten any other kind of ramen…

    greenT2
Just got to wait for the water to boil boil boil…

    noodlesnew1
I like to not cook my ramen all the way through.

    greenT3
so its still kinda sticky. it comes with the nori in its packet.

    greenT4
    YUM!

    noodlesnew2
sometimes i like to add XO dumplings…sooo gooooooood.

    greenT5
    mmmmmmmmmmmmmm XO dumplings…

    greenT6
    soooooo gooood *tear

    greenT7
Other times, fish balls or cuddle fishballs or beef tendon balls….*droolz….

    greenT8
and a ton of romaine…i love putting romaine hearts in from the beginning…they get so soft and flavorly good at the end of the cooking process.

    greenT9
The romaine also makes the broth so much sweeter…i also add a lot more water and not all of the soup base packet…soooo goooood!

Well no matter which way you have it…

    noodlesnew3 noodlesnew4 noodlesnew5

Whether with dumplings, or veggies, or fishballs, or cuddle fish balls, or beef tendon balls…the green tea noodles compliment it all really well…
    noodlesnew6
    AND NO MSG! WOOT!

  • Del Frisco’s: Put some meat in your mouth.

    Del Frisco’s
    PH: 212-575-5129

    1221 Avenue of the Americas
    New York, NY 10020

    delfrisc1

Chef Jolie and i have been taking turns taking/showing each other restaurants to enjoy/share a good meal at. this week was my turn, and i decided that Del Frisco’s would be our destination. It had been a while since i’ve come back to this place and my last experience was quite good, so why not?

    blurry Bread: FREE!
    delfrisc2 delfrisc3
The bread came nice and warm, with a really nice crisp sesame seed outside with a warm fluffy soft inside…The bread was really good…imagine the outside like a really good tasting breadstick with perfectly just toasted sesame seeds, but instead of being met by a crunchy innard, you get this warm soft fluffy embrace of tasty bread…yes…it was THAT good that i had to write this much about it.

    Seafood Plateau: $55.00

    delfrisc4

this was not as good as i was lead to believe by our waitress…I was only hopeful of it being good as my experience with the Seafood Plateau at Smith & Wollensky was awesome. However, this was way lacking…the lobster tail itself was from concentrate…er..frozen, which was really weird…as not only is it lobster season…the price was MP…don’t MP me with frozen shit. Everything was eh…shrimp cocktail was passable…but that was somewhat expected…(of course nothing tops Dimillo’s Shrimp Cocktail from Maine LOL.) If you still don’t get it….the bread was better than this.

    Filet Trio: $60.00

    delfrisc5

Three filet Medallions each prepared differently. This was Chef’s dish, so i don’t remember exactly. I think the first medallion was garlic butter, second was reduction sauce with mushrooms and third was a crab and asparagus cream sauce. They were actually really good. The medallions were ridiculously tender, not only cut with ease but melted in your mouth quite readily. It was a good dish for what it was.

    Long Bone 32oz Wagyu: $94.00

    delfrisc6

Plate was hot. There was more fat than i had anticipated but not too much. Marble-zation was pretty good. Wished it had been aged too…

    delfrisc7

Other than those issues…it was a really good steak. Perfectly marinated, and medium rare, just the way i like it.

    delfrisc8

Flavoring, marbling, was goooooooooood. Not the best i’ve had, but pretty good. I don’t really feel it was 94 dollar good….definitely not as good as the best i’ve ever had. But acceptable.

    Banana Bread Pudding: $11.00

    delfrisc9

Chef and i were craving something sweet, and i needed a jolt from the food coma i was experiencing. Black coffee for me and a lovely dessert. This was really good accompanied by the ice cream. The whip cream was eh, but it definitely hit the spot.

    delfrisc10

delfrisc11 Summation: Chef and I had agreed that we didn’t want to get sides cause we didn’t want to fill up on them…however, looking back….it probably would have been nice to get some kind of vegetable to split…as we were definitely meat overloaded. lol. (i don’t think i’ll be eating steak for a while LOL we actually doggie bagged our left over steak)

I definitely want to come back to this restaurant and try their other steaks, sides and some other appetizers.

I’d recommend this as a fancy night out. I had a good time, love the busy environment, and service was great. Food was good, however i know what i wouldn’t order next time.

    beechwood1

I had just woken up and was pretty famished. Tigress was also hungry, so we decided to stomp around her hood and look for some eats. She decided to pull me into this snazzy looking joint. She had felt the place was over-rated, but we were hungry…so why not?

    beechwood2

She got the Beechwood Waffle (with whip cream and fruit): it was pretty good. best part was they make their own whip cream. I, in general, don’t like whip cream, but their’s was really good. $8.00

    beechwood3

Tigress recommended the Lox Plate (Scottish lox, cream cheese, red onion, tomato and capers served with a bagel): This was actually really good, however, i didn’t have enough bagel or cream cheese for the amount of lox…but i must admit, putting it all together was pretty good! $13.00

Summation: Ultimately there was nothing amazing about the food we ate, but it did serve its purpose. We had also gotten Lemonade that was very good. I’d definitely like to go back and try other items on the Menu  as Tigress had mentioned that their Eggs Benedict was pretty good).

    me was satisfied.
