| Again Alpha was raving about another joint inside of the New World Mall, and even went as far to say that these egg custard tarts could go up against Manna House Bakery. WTF? BLASPHEMER! so i had to try them out.
*i stole the above picture from Jeffrey Tastes. |

| tiny little corner on the second floor, right to the left of the escalators when you go in to New World Mall. |
| What they got: |
| - click for a closer look - |
| - click for a closer look - |

| admittedly they had a lot of weird flavored po-tots and don-tots. |

| very interesting…but i didn’t have time to try, nor was i interested in them. |

| though this did spark my curiosity….but i needed to focus. |
| What i was after: |

| They had run out of egg custard tarts, so they were bringing over a fresh batch, so while i waited i got a ice lemon and honey drink….which was super bland…so don’t get that there. (excuse the fluorescent lighting as it was all i had to work with and i was in a rush, so the coloring of the egg custard tart might look a tad off…if you really dislike it and want to complain, go to hell.) |

| the egg custard was crazy hot, cuz it just came out of the oven…mmmm radioactive don-tot…. |

| the crust was a little bit on the thicker side to my liking but it was very flakey and well done…also a tad oiler than i like…the egg custard was hot and gooey and just melted in my mouth…it was really good. |
| Summation: Seriously good egg custard tarts at this location. They were really good, and i could definitely see myself coming here to get them as a fix…but i don’t feel they top or equal Manna House Bakery.
rumors/gossip/blah blah blah: Alpha told me the other flavored po-tot and don-tots aren’t that good. Nor is the japanese hot dog thingy….uhg, i really wanted to try…maybe i will? CHEERS! |

40-21 Main Street (3rd floor of New World Mall) |

| So Alpha was telling me that him and his mums went to try out the dimsum on the third floor of New World Mall, at a restaurant called Grand Restaurant. He said he was pretty freaking good….as i had complained there hasn’t been a good dimsum joint in the longest time in both manhat chinky town nor flushing chinkytown…hell i haven’t had good dimsum in the longest time. So now i went to try this joint out. (best part? THEY HAVE A CHEAP PARKING LOT ON LOCATION! – you can see it in the picture with the word ‘Park’ between the two arrows pointing downward.)
*i stole the above picture from Jeffrey Tastes. |

| as you reach the third floor through the escalators, you see how HUGE this place is. (there’s elevators from the basement parking garage.) Just head to that lady in the upper right hand corner in pink and get a number from her. Dang a lot of the hostesses (all in pink) are pretty dang cute/hot. Since the place is so large, you won’t wait a long time for a table no matter what time it is. |

| we got kind of a crappy table and had to basically stare down all the cart ladies to get their lazy fat asses to us to put food on our table. wait staff (non-chinese) seemed kind of dumb…meaning they didn’t speak english…i think they were mexican [no i'm not calling all mexicans dumb, just your mother].) |

| DIMSUM! |

| Steamed Beef Ball: this was really good and one of the dimsums i always like to get. very flavorful and delicious. |

| turnip cake, this was REALLY GOOD HERE. crispy outside, hot innards accompanied by cold oyster sauce. YUM! |

| Chinese Fried Dough in Rice Rolls: this was sooooo fresh! the fried dough was still crunchy and the rice rolls were so slipper and delicious. |

| We should have known these would be THAT GOOD from the previous dish. |

| nice hot fresh steam juicy in the mouth. |

| and of course no dimsum feast would be complete without Pearl Shrimp Dumplings…these were exceptionally good, biting into them they exploded with juices…the intensity of the flavor…really hit the spot just right. |

| Summations: Oddly enough, after reading a shit-ton reviews from others that complained about wait staff, and food and blah blah this and blah blah that…we had none of those issues/problems.
All of the dimsum dishes we had were ridiculously good, and HOT! which i loved, i’m guessing cause the food keeps coming out and going so fast. I think this is the best dimsum i’ve had in a long time. For what i wanted, it hit the spot. again my only complaint was our seating area, and how some of the food carts would pass us by, other than that, i’d definitely go there again. (moreover, having gone there at 1pm on a sunday [i like to sleep in, bite me.] i was surprised that there were so many people and so much dimsum options left. |

| What’s even cooler is behind the hostesses/wine wall are all these seafood tanks. They have southern hemisphere lobsters, and turtles and tortoises, and HUGE CRABS, and a huge assortment of different fishes! it’s amazing to see so many different types of seafoods housed in all of these pretty large tanks. I am definitely looking forward to eating dinner here and having some of these creatures on my table!

| So it was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday night, but it was literally FRIGID in the office…so much so that i was able to order hot pho and cha gio without breaking a sweat (before, during, and after).

| it always disappoints me whenever a joint tacks on the “we sell sushi too!”. kinda makes me feel that the joint isn’t good enough doing their own ethnicity, they got to throw in some Japanese… *shrug. |
| PHOOD: |

| food came semi hot, and took a long while to get to me. but whatever, i was freezing and needed some hot soup in me. |

| Cha Gio (4, Vietnamese crispy fried spring roll filled with pork, shrimp, mushrooms, clear noodles, taro root and turnip, served with lettuce, fresh herbs and nucc cham sauce on side): super duper crispy! $5.50 way cheaper than Obao but no pickled veggies or pieces of romaine. |

| now you can see the cross section of this crispy tasty morsel. |

| on closer look you can see the shell is pretty much separate from the hot moist meaty insides…yes, my innards did fall out on occasion into the fish sauce out of the hard crispy skin…but it was still good…but i felt the flavoring from Obao was better. |
| Pho Assembly: Ingredients |

| Pho Bo Soup (A hearty ox tail soup with rice noodles, thin slices of beef and onion served with bean sprouts, basil and hoisin dipping sauce on the side): Unfortunately, the broth wasn’t hot enough, so i had to nuke it to make it super hot. I got the large as i was hungry and cold (L) $6.50 |

| the supplied bean sprouts, lemon, chilis and mint leaves. |

| now in a separate container they had the large order of pho rice noodles, that were covered by very thinly sliced beef. |

| with your powers combined… |
| Step 1: empty some of the broth into the pho noodle container, as there is too much broth and will overspill if you just add the ingredients to it. |

| Final Step: stuff your face. |
| Summation: Unfortunately, with all that work and effort…the pho wasn’t that good. the broth was a little bit gamey…and the noodles just didn’t absorb any flavor so remained uber bland….i was quite disappointed….the beef was ok. broth was ok. noodles sub par. bean sprouts are vegetables, and your mom is a good cook. wait…what?
atleast the spring rolls were good? i will most likely never order take out pho from this place again. Though i am curious as to what the pho would taste like sitting down to eat it. Cheers! |

now guess what i’ll be eating for lunch later today, WOOT!!! ![]()

| It’s been over four years since i’ve ordered from Little Thai Kitchen, and i wanted to try it out again, as i’ve been having pad thai cravings of late, and i’m always trying to look for cheap but good pad thai. This time it was lunchtime, and i was checking out Seamless, when i found out LTK was having lunch specials…SO WHY NOT?!?!!? |
| FOOOOOD! |

| Set Lunch Special w/ Noodle Entrée (Papaya Salad and Shrimp Pad Thai): Food arrived fast, and at the proper temperatures. $11.00 (note, special does not include spring rolls or Thai Iced Tea.) |
![]() |
![]() |

| as you can see, the spring roll had way too much ‘wrap’ and not really that much filling….and for three bucks, this was way below par….don’t order these. =P |

| the papaya salad that came with the lunch special looked very poor…but it was good. I’ll most likely get this again, cause it was nice and crunchy, proper flavor…but not enough peanuts. The thing about Papaya salad is, i always felt that its a symphony of many ingredients coming together to create a masterpiece…if any ingredient is skimped or poor, the masterpiece breaks down and you’re left with a bootleg…which in this case, you got a HD camcorder version of X-men first class. =P |

| Shrimp Pad Thai…was good, and i would definitely recommend it. Shrimp was not over cooked and the tails were taken off. I squirted lemon all over it and it enhanced the flavor to another level. I’d definitely say that Little Thai Kitchen is probably still probably best bang for buck in Midtown for Pad Thai. |

| Summation: definitely going to try other joints for pad thai, but this place is pretty reliable. I look forward to trying other items on the menu, but will definitely stay away from the spring and summer rolls from this joint.

| So Polarbear was in town (with schoolfriend Norman) and Lucky had told her about this place in flushing that supposedly now has the best spicy fish in all of flushing. We were eager to try it, though it was pretty late when Polarbear got into the city, but that didn’t stop us. |

boiled peanuts as appetizers. yum! Polarbear ate them all. (but it’s cool, i prefer the dried salty ones that taiwanese joints usually serve. woot. ) |

| Shredded Beef with Spicy Green Peppers: The beef in this was really juicy and very good, however, i felt the flavor of the peppers kind of threw this dish off…and i ended up eating just the beef and not the peppers. $12.95 |

| Salt Pepper Eel: nice crunchy hot texture. the heat added a tiny bite to it, it was good, but i’ve had better. won’t be eating this here again, though i feel the flavor and rendering would have been perfect for squid…too bad they don’t serve squid. $14.95 |

| Lamb with Cumin Flavor: I felt this was probably the best dish we had. The lamb was rich with flavor, really juicy, and the spiciness was just right. $12.95 |

| Fish Filet with Hot Chili Pepper: the fish was good, we ordered it without bones, and it was very flavorful. the pieces of fish were on the smaller side, and the bite was only ok. Still not really comparable to Little Pepper or Joe’s in MD. $12.95 |

| Summation: Majority of the food was good, and very well cooked. Nothing was overcooked or under cooked, all food was served hot temperature wise (and spicy wise, yum!).
was a tad disappointed that there was no spicy wontons, as i love getting that at sichuan joints. Though admittedly the spicy fish here makes me long to go back to Maryland to eat at Joe’s again for their spicy fish and their spicy wontons…droooool…. I am definitely looking forward to trying more dishes at this joint. CHEERS!!! |
