So after finding out that you can actually purchase the ingredients from Saigon bakery to make ur own banh mi, WHY NOT have a BANH MI PARTY?!!?, and even better, get fresh bread! and add more roast pork? oooh now thats an idea.
|

Hoagie bread, italian bread, pickled veggies (turnip and carrots) $2, the roast pork/bacon $8, Viet Salami $3.50, cilantro, and cucumbers. Oddly enough, its very important to have all these ingredients, as the banh mi really is a symphony of these well choregraphed flavors/textures.
|
 |
the viet salami has a very distinct flavor. most would think it would be overly salty due to the ingredients, but this is totally not the case…by itself the salami does have enough flavor and would be great solo in a sandwich or even on a cracker.
 |
Here’s a sliced portion for you to look at… mmmmm msg.
|

| Bacon/Roast Pork….this is sooooo good. what i do is pop some in the microwave to get it sizzling before putting it into the sandwich. |

| the pickled veggies i feel are pretty much the same as the 2 dollar ones you can find at your local korean supermarkets…however, i’m picky about my korean picked veggies as some places have too much liquid in them or slice them differently. I admit this is my favorite type of cut of it. |

cilantro, a must in a viet sandwich!!! gives it that nice settle kick near the end.
|

| cool sliced cucumbers, a nice burst of coolness and refreshingness. |

| of course if you’re allergic make it as you please, or fill it with what you like, chicken, hot dogs, curry….etc..etc. |

| some like it the simple way… |

| Bread, slice bread, rip out some innards of bread, mayo, and put in sizzling viet flavored bacon. |

| i ran out of cilantro and cucumbers…booooo…but the banh mi was still ridiculously good…. |

Summation: this was very good, and i look forward to making these at my superbowl party, WOOT WOOT!! and nothing compliments it better than a nice cup of hot milk tea. WOOT! CHEERS!!!

My review on this place back in 2007 still stands the same, as this place just keeps getting better and better. And everyone that i bring here ends up agreeing with me one way or another…Eileen’s cheesecake is the best damn cheesecake in in NYC… |
 |

| Its a cozy little mom and pop joint. they kept it small…which seemingly worked out well, as you saw alot of the larger expanded dessert places got shrunk down heavily when the economy hit bad….but not Eileen’s…they kept it short, sweet…and simple. |

| Everytime in this place, majority of the shtuff is sold out quick. |

| As you can see they don’t sell their cheesecake by the slices, instead they sell it by the cupcake which they consider slices. |
| Summation: now the slices are fine and dandy and all, but i feel that the cheesecakes are better than the cheesecake cupcakes…*shrug, don’t know how to put my finger on it, but its just better….so in the future i will just have to get a small cheesecake with four toppings instead of these tiny cheesecake cupcakes.
Love this place. CHEERS!

Manna House Bakery PH: 212-966-3766
|
125 Mott Street (between Grand Street and Hester Street) New York, NY 10013
|

I can blame alpha 100% for this, as he was the one to bring these to my house once (and many times after that). Not only did he get me addicted but my mum always zooms to the Manna House Bakery box whenever she sees it and has to yank one of these bad boys out and devour it. These are the best Egg Custard Tarts I’ve ever had in my life. Osmundaregalis was lucky to witness and participate in my first time visiting the actual joint.
|

| a cozy little mom and pop joint. yesh, they do have other items, but the eyes homed in on one thing and one thing only. |

| Egg Custard Tarts. 80 cents a pop. i wanted to buy them all… |

| Perfect shape. Perfect Smell. Perfect Texture. all in my mouth. all for me. none for you. |

| Summation: again, this is the best damn egg custard tart i’ve ever had (haven’t been to HK yet), and i’m pretty sure it will be the best you’ve ever had in NYC too. The flavor, the texture, the crust…everything is perfect about it.
it could be a day old. it could be two days old. it could be a week old, this egg custard tart will still taste fucking amazing.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND and a definite MUST GET if you come visit my city.
CHEERS!!! |

Beard Papa’s PH: 212-799-3770
|
2167 Broadway New York, NY 10024
|

| I’ve had Beard Papa’s before, but never on location…and seeing as i’m not much of a dessert person (or a very PICKY dessert person as someone told me once) i didn’t think much to ever visit this place. However, since Osmundaregalis was in town, and she wanted to try it…why not? As i had heard in the past there were multiple locations opened up in nyc, however, all but one location was still open. |

| as you enter, you’ll realized that it is a pretty warm quaint joint. |

| cutesy chalk board outlining their menu and hours, and how to stalk the bearded man pictured. |

Then of course you notice the huge communal table that i suspect is to get everyone to sit with each other and talk. I decided to sit at the loner table by myself.
|

| known for mochi also and specialized cream puffs…supposedly they are made to order. |
| Hot Chocolate (10oz): Osmundaregalis decided to get some hot chocolate as it was freezing and we had been walking all over manhat. The hot chocolate was actually really really good. Not as good as i’ve had in Europe, but it was still pretty fucking good. I think their downfall was…that they used American chocolate…which has a tendency of being overly sweet. $3.10 |

| Regular Cream Puff: and now for the main event. Now mind you i’ve had this several times already, people always bringing them to my events and such…and they’ve never been anything remarkable. However, i must admit…this time it was actually really good. And i fear it had alot to do with the fact that it was made on the spot, instead of brought over sitting in a box for a day or few hours. $1.75 |

| Summation: Ultimately, i’d highly recommend if you are into cream puffs, to eat it on location, rather than having it ‘second hand”.
Though admittedly, when you eat it, if you’re a brute like me you’ll end up murdering/crushing it…try to be a little more gentle…as Osmundaregalis was not impressed when i handed it back to her (for her turn) and it was basically crushed. “YOU CRUSHED IT!” (-__-) |

I’ve been hearing about Egg Custard King for the longest time and how they have all these different kinds of egg tarts…and to be honest i’ve eaten alot of them, but never on location…and always felt they were eh….so finally having the time and ability to go…i find out they are no more…and are now called Natalie Bakery (in place of their second location, as i heard the first location is no more.) and Moreover, it would seem Natalie Bakery is only half the size of the original Egg Custard King 2. Oh well…they had two kinds of tarts…so why not?
|

Best part? both tarts JUST CAME OUT OF THE OVEN. so had to get one of each.
|

Egg Custard Tart: this was really good as it just came out of the oven so it was warm with hot innards…jeez was this good, but not the best i’ve had. $0.90
|

Portuguese Egg Custard Tart: Now this was alot better than the egg custard tart, and it was nice and warm…which really warmed me up on such a cold day…totally hit the spot. $0.90
|

| Summation: Though this would not be my first go to place for Egg Custard Tart if i was in the neighborhood and needed a ‘don tot’ fix, it would definitely hit the spot if my favorite place was closed. or as us FatNationers would do…just get egg tarts from here and my favorite place, i mean at 90 cents a piece, its really not a wallet killer…
I recommend this place, but it is not necessarily a MUST GO. CHEERS! |

| You would not believe for the longest time i’ve been meaning to go to this place, but they’re closed on mondays, and they close before i even get out of work…but finally an opportunity arose…and i was gonna make good on it as SOOO MANY PEOPLE have been telling me to go here, and the food network shows, and visitors etc..etc…and Osmundaregalis was here…so why not? *wink. |

Inside is a quaint small joint, one counter with the doughnuts, and a semi decent line. It’s nice, warm, and cozy inside…and a Christmas doughnut tree (i went in December) was a nice touch.
|

| Now to some you might think, “ew, they leave the doughnuts out like that?” but in all honesty, the doughnuts move so fast (LITERALLY) that it kinda doesn’t matter. |

| We decided to pick three doughnuts and try them out. |

| Creme Brulee (Yeast Doughnut): holey fuck this was goood. Crunchy outside like a real creme brulee, and gooey hot insides….droool. me wants one now. 0_o RECOMMEND! |

Tres Leches (Cake Doughnut): this was a good doughnut…but nothing that wow’d me. try it if you like. I find it so odd that so many people rave so much about this doughnut…yet it didn’t have that effect on me…maybe it was too hyped up for me? Fear not, i will be trying it again to make sure i didn’t miss out on a good doughnut on the off chance that particular one was off. (since my partner in crime also said it was only aite.)
|

Black Berry Jelly Filled Square Doughnut with Peanut Glaze (Yeast Doughnut): this, has left every doughnut i’ve ever had in my life in the dust…. This doughnut is an instant mouthgasm. it is a MUST GET if you ever visit this place. (they make their own jelly that goes in it.)
|

| Summation: this is a MUST GO PLACE if you ever visit my city. GREAT EAT! |

Shake Shack PH: 646-237-5036
|
152 East 86th Street New York, NY 10128
|

| I think its bad, but i blame Alphatrion for not having tried this place sooner…as he told me it was just like five guys except with a long wait. So i never paid it heed, until he went again recently and recanted his judgement and said i should definitely check it out. Again, Osmundaregalis was in the neighborhood and i needed a review…two birds…one stone…AGAIN! |

huge fucking long line. super crowded. hard to get seats. worth the wait? better be. wtf. (surprisingly the line moved pretty fast).
|
they give you a pager so when your order is ready… |
get paged, come here pick up your food. |

| food nice and hot and fresh. Shroom burger and Shack Burger. |

ShackBurger: $4.75 – Holey shit, this becomes the best burger i’ve had in Manhattan now. But i confess i feel whta really makes the burger so outstanding is the “shack sauce”. It really completes the hot burger and compliments the cheese, lettuce and tomater. and of course it doesn’t hurt to have a nice toasted fresh soft bun. Ridiculously good, and super highly recommend.
|

| Shroom Burger: $6.75 – Now i’ve heard alot of people raving about this…and had to try it before i could put it down…and fucking A, this was a really good non meat burger. The gooey cheese AND the “shack sauce” really put this shroom burger together really well! |

| Summation: I highly recommend this place, and it is definitely a MUST GO to place if you ever visit my city. But i can’t believe i’m saying this…but if i could only have one burger at this joint…i’d definitely pick the shroom burger over the shack burger…i might even want to try the shack attack burger next which has both a beef patty and a shroom burger in there. 0_o WHOA.
I will definitely be checking out this joint again (different locations) and try other items on the menu…especially the desserts which i’ve heard great things about…or the hotdog that’s only served twice a year at shake shack? 0_o |
