  • Lobster Roll @ Luke’s

    Luke’s Lobster
    PH: 212-249-4241

    242 East 81st Street (2nd Ave)
    New York, NY 10028

    luke1

I’ve been hearing mixed reviews from people about this place since its first location opened in October of 09, so i’ve always been hesitant of going…since the type of lobster rolls i’ve found in manhattan don’t even remotely compare to the ones in Maine, but this place claims to get their lobster from Maine and the guy that opened it is an ex-lobsterman from MAINE…AND not to mention Osmundaregalis was visiting…two birds…one stone…WHY NOT!?

    Décor:

    luke2

decided to go to the uptown east location since yelp gave it the highest ratings (at the time, and there is a Shake Shack nearby. lol.) a nice cozy little joint.

mmmm lobster roll in my mouf:

    luke3

You order your food, and you get a receipt with a number on it. got a nice Blue Berry Soda (2$) while we waited.

    luke4

Lobster Roll: $14.00. The wait actually wasn’t that long, they called our number almost just as we sat ourselves.

    luke5

a close up of the roll, its claw and knuckle meat with some seasoning sprinkled on top.

    luke6

    CHOMP! wonderful fresh lobster.

Summation: This now becomes the best lobster roll i’ve had in nyc. This completely blows away Pearl Oyster Bar’s and Mary’s Fish Camp (well that’s cause i know what a real lobster roll is suppose to be like, not with any of these ambrosia or mayo or sauces and crap).

I mean Luke’s doesn’t top Red’s Eats in ME ($14.95, you get more than one whole lobster per roll), but it’s pretty freaking good for a NYC Lobster Roll, and the price of 14 dollars for just a roll? that’s ridiculously cheap (especially when at pearl’s and mary’s you’re paying $30+ for a roll [comes with shoestring fries, but the fries aren't worth 15 bucks if you catch my math]).

I, definitely, will be back to try the other wonderful seafood this joint has to offer. ESPECIALLY “A Taste of Maine” (where you get half a lobster roll, half a crab roll, half a shrimp roll, a pair of empress crab claws, chips and a drink for $21!!!) NOW THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!

    Luke’s Lobster 4 Alphatrion’s Birthday

    Luke’s Lobster
    PH: 212-249-4241

    242 East 81st Street (2nd Ave)
    New York, NY 10028

    luke1

Well, it was Alphatrion’s birthday, and he had never been to Luke’s Lobster before, so i thought it would be awesome to do a driveby and pick up some good shtuff from the joint. I called to make sure they do pick up, but the only sucky thing is they had run out of empress crab claws, so the meals were being discounted to compensate.

    llob1

(2x) Noah’s Ark – Unfortunately these normally come with empress crab claws but they were all out…so they discounted each Noah’s ark by 4 dollars. In each Noah’s ark is 2 halves of a Lobster Roll, 2 Halves of a Crab Roll, 2 Halves of a shrimp roll, 2 bags of chips (your choice), and 2 Maine Root Soda’s (your choice) all for $36.00 (usually 40, but no empress crab claws.) We got two Noah’s Arks.

    llob2

    llob3

Your choice of chips: Sea Salt & Vinegar, Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper, Jalapeno, Smokehouse BBQ, and Sea Salt (not pictured)

    llob4

Your choice Maine Root Soda: Root Beer, Ginger Brew, Sarsaparilla, Blueberry, Mandarin Orange (not pictured), and Lemon Lime (not pictured).

    llob5

and off to the main course! (i also wanted to try out their New England Clam Chowda)

    llob6 llob7
New England Clam Chowder – i wanted to see if their chowder was any good…and it was pretty freaking good. not overly salty, and not over buttered…it was pretty perfect, and the potatoes were like tiny balls. Not the best chowder i’ve had in my life, but in nyc, this definitely ranks at one of the tops (IN NYC). $7.00

    llob8

    llob9

Now off to the three half rolls which you could also say is a “Taste of Maine” (which is what Noah’s Ark really is…its basically just two “Taste of Maine”‘s but for cheaper!

    llob10

Crab Roll Half, was good, but a little bit on the blander side…most likely more celery salt would have helped.

    llob11

Lobster Roll Half, good as usual…still the best lobster roll i’ve had in NYC.
(best in life is still Red’s. WOOT!)

    llob12

Shrimp Roll Half…was actually surprisingly good. I mean this was really good…I’d definitely go back for this.

    llob13

Summation: I was happy that Alpha liked the food, and was also happy that the rest of the items we tried was really good. I’ll definitely be going back…and definitely want to try the other soups.

One thing to note for me was that service is always friendly at this location.

I do have one thing that i wouldn’t mind…if they served really good french fries with their food…that would make this joint even crazier good.

      andy1

I’ve actually been ordering take out from this place for the longest time, but never had the time to run over and take a pic of the front of the restaurant or have time to actually sit down and eat there…well an opportunity arose, so WHY NOT!?

      Menu:

      andy2

      - click for menu –

      FOOD!

      andy3

Start you off with peanuts and some pickled veggies…traditional Taiwanese cuisine start up. woot!

      andy4

      andy5

Taiwanese Hamburgers (this is one order): Take-out wise i have always gotten these, so why wouldn’t i since i’m here anyway? $3.95

      andy6

Take-out wise these were already really really good…but eating it here…it was sooo much better…

      andy7

for starters the innards were still hot, the peanuts, the pickled veggies the cilantro…all play against each other with the salty heated fatty meat that just melts in your mouth only to be coddled by the fresh ‘bun’ its in. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!

      andy8

Pork Roll: Another item i had read about on yelp that some yelpers said was really good was this dish. I admit, this is a pretty good pork roll. and i recommend it, but not super highly recommend it. The sauce, as usual, accents the crispy skin and pureed warm goodness in quite a traditional and fashionable manner. $5.95

      andy9

      andy10

      Fried Baby Oysters:
the name says it all. i usually like my oysters raw, but again, enough people raved to me that it was so good, that i am not one to not eat something i don’t like when so many people say its good. and believe you me, i’m happy that’s my mannerism, cause these were really fucking good. got to love the crisped basil. I highly recommend this dish. $6.50

      andy11
      andy12
Crispy Prawns with Walnuts: This was also a dish i wanted to try and compare. the dish was good, love their glazed walnuts and the broccoli is perfectly cooked, not overdone moosh nor was it underdone rocks…it was perfect…however, this dish does not compare to what i consider the best Crispy Prawns with Walnuts (High Pearl). The other thing to note is…this is not a Taiwanese dish. lol. $14.95

      andy13

      andy14

Pork Chop, Peking-Style: Alpha wanted to try this so we got it. It was pretty good, but definitely not something i’d repeat here. $8.95

      andy15

      andy16

Sauteed Smelly Bean Curd: Alot of people raved about the stinky tofu here, so i couldn’t pass up this opportunity to try it point blank. (this was definitely taiwanese style as it was stinky, but not stinky enough to murder the block. It was nice and crispy, texture was good, the mix of heat was good too. However, i felt the tofu just wasn’t stinky enough. lol. $7.75

      andy17

      andy18

All in the all the food came quick and hot. Service was definitely good and friendly.

      andy19

They rounded out our meal with complimentary Red bean soup (warm). a nice touch to ending a good meal.

Summation: Lately some of the normal/regular dishes i usually order from Andy’s has somewhat gone down hill (orange beef and szechuan beef noodle soup)…don’t really know why…though some have still remained strong (taiwanese hamburger and oyster pancake) I mean i still order take out, i am guessing that its a new cook…so i need to figure out the schedule and only order when the old cook is working. lol.

This place is very cheap (price wise) and the portions are pretty good too for the indicated prices, i mean they have lobster noodles for 13 bucks! I’m definitely going to try that next time.

I recommend you try this place if its in your neck of the woods…HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE TAIWANESE HAMBURGERS!!! WOOT!

      82-18 45th Avenue
      Elmhurst, NY 11373

      tgoo1

So i’ve heard really good things about this place for the longest time, and have actually tried it before and it didn’t leave that great of an impression on me, but i feel that had more to do with the jackass that told me to get cantonese style roast pork wonton lo mein here…which let’s just say is somewhat sub par to “Noodle Town”…and not to mention this restaurant is right next to my favorite restaurant…so you can see why its been a long hard road to actually come to try this joint. However, after a long day at the office, Alpha suggested we go here to stuff our faces…SO WHY NOT!?

      Hole in the wall:
      tgoo2 tgoo3
As you can see, the joint isn’t that big. I love hole in the wall restaurants…the best foods are often found here…funny thing is, i know some girls that would never come to hole in the walls no matter how good the food is…THEIR LOSS!!!

      GRUB!

      tgoo4

Malaysian Satay Panggang (6pcs; choice o marinated beef, pork or chicken charcoal grilled to perfection served with tangy peanut sauce): A little different from what i’m use to. $6.75

      tgoo5

You definitely get the smokey flavor of the charcoal in the meat, but i admit, i like Penang Elmhurst Satay more.
      tgoo6 tgoo7
The peanut sauce actually seemed somewhat bland and not much tangy-ness….i definitely like the peanut sauce at Penang Elmhurst more. Love the cucumbers that come with it as usual.

      tgoo8

Crispy Fish Cake (Taste Good Special): I have to admit, these fish cakes were pretty freaking good…and the tangy spicy sweet sauce really accented the fresh hot fried fish cakes really well. These are the second best fish cakes i’ve ever had in my life. $8.75

      tgoo9

      tgoo10

      Fragrant Spicy Chicken: $9.95

      tgoo11

I love fresh cucumbers in a dish.

      tgoo12

The funny thing is, the look of this chicken dish is very deceiving. As is its name. It was very fragrant…and it was actually really good…it was definitely different. From the look of it, one would think it would be salty, spicy, and full of flavor…but it was very aromatic, and fragrant…but no saltiness and…sadly…no spiciness…maybe they forgot? regardless, the dish was still really good.

      tgoo13

Fried Tofu with Minced Pork Spicy Garlic Sauce: Now this is a dish i love getting at malaysian restaurants…my favorite rendition is over at Satay on Kissena, but this version definitely gave it a run for its money. The milky fresh tofu that’s fried tasty skin, accompanied by the fish paste sauce and tasty pork and shrimp and light mix veggies…it becomes an orchestra of heaveny salty flavors that just screams for a bowl of chicken oil rice…but since they were all out…had to settle for white rice. Really good!!! $10.95

      tgoo14

      tgoo15

Butter Jumbo Shrimps: We saw this dish in a video review of the place that highly recommended it…so we wanted to try it after seeing how interesting looking it was. $23.95

      tgoo16

It’s actually butterfly pierced, and the shrimp’s head is pushed through the body cavity…as you can see the head and tail are still attached..as are the shell.

      tgoo17

though it is fried, i’m not a big fan of eating the shell with shrimp…so i’d have to say i’m biased on this dish. I took the shell off and still enjoyed the flavoring of the shrimp, but i feel i’m not really one to judge this dish properly. Alpha, on the other hand likes shell on fried shrimp, and said it was really good.

      tgoo18

Ultimately, i have to say, i loved the sizzling tofu dish….it was ridiculously good on white rice… =)

      tgoo19

Summation: I recommend this restaurant. I’m definitely going back to try more dishes…especially the ones that i am accustomed to getting whenever i am in Malaysian restaurants….my mouth is just watering just thinking about going back to try some of the noodle dishes.

      CHEERS!!!

I was fiending for some Hainanese Chicken on rice, and the only place open at the hour was Taste Good, and i had also heard from others that this place had really good Hainanese Chicken….and since i’ve never had it before there…WHY NOT!? (jeez i say ‘and’ alot)

    tgoo1

Char Kway Teow (Malaysia’s famous wok fried flat rice noodles with fresh shrimp, fish cake, bean sprouts, egg and chives): My co-hort said this was really really good. one of the best he’s ever had. $6.00

    tgoo2

    tgoo3

Hainanese Chicken Rice (own house special rice subtle flavored with our steamed chicken stock served with specially blended soy & chili sauce): This is awesome that you get soup and this amount of food for just $5.00

    tgoo4

The chicken was really really good, nice fatty pieces, and love the cucumber slivers in the salty soy sauce at the bottom of the plate.

    tgoo5

Their chicken stock rice (Yow fahn) is one of the best i’ve had in Queens. man was it good.

Summation: The food was really good for the price…

However, the other day i ordered Hainanese Chicken on rice take out, and they ridiculously skimped me on the chicken…no soup either on take out, the box was like majority Rice (which was still really good) but they gave me like four pieces of tiny chicken (1/3 of what you see in the pictures above) which really pissed me off and i found it really really annoying, quite unacceptable. so i would not recommend getting this as take out.

    • Fat Nation Thanksgiving @ Castle Azriha

Oh man, I was sick as a dog come Thanksgiving Day…I was at the older sister’s for a feast, and 30 minutes in i had to leave cause i felt so miserable (due to illness) which kind of sucked cause i had brought a suckling pig to her thanksgiving… and was really looking forward to not only cutting it, but eating it too. Luckily i got home and went straight to bed, and self medded…which lead to me talking to myself in the dark for a good 15 minutes…but that’s a story for another time…Luckily i always have a Fat Nation Thanksgiving the day after Actual Thanksgiving…. which i had ordered another baby suckling pig for. *evil grin. (got kind of tired of the turducken/turkey tradition…though next year i might do Turducken again after i buy my own oven. hmmmmmm….) (and of course you will recall i’ve done the whole suckling pig thing to make sure it would run smoothly before [The First Suckling Pig])

And since i was sick and couldn’t make my famous deviled eggs or a good hearty salad and some more veggie side dishes….i ended up getting more roasted meats. =) heheheh (the price of the pig is still the same 118$ and it was alot bigger than last time. 0_o

first up, squid…i usually get it whole and cut it myself…but in my weakened condition….lol.

the roast pork was ridiculously good, as the guy had JUST taken it out.

and what would roast meats be without roast duck?

then had to latex glove it up and cut up the ole porker.

i cannot iterate, nor will these pictures do enough justice to how crispy the skin is and how juicy and flavorful the meat is.

i guarantee you that baby roasted pig will be the best “fire meat” you’ll ever eat in your life time….the closer you are to the death of the pig, the better the flavor it is.

      *droool….

of course there were other people and other foods…i just forgot to photog them. LOL…whoops!

i was sick….still so sue me!!! atleast i got a pic of the dessert…after everyone had at them lol.
      pig11

It turned out to be an awesome Fat Nation Thanksgiving! thanks to everyone that came and participated!

SIDENOTE: Everyone always asks me where i learned to cut roasted pig…funny enough…the answer is Youtube. lol

Here’s pics of the first pig i ever cut.
      pigday1
the knife kind of got stuck in it….thats what i get for messing around… lol.

For the longest time Yumi had wanted to take me to this lobster restaurant that she had kept on talking about, and the opportunity arose where when we came back from the shooting range it’d be on the way. SO WHY NOT?!!? We were all pretty much starving after working up an appetite at Sunset Hill Shooting range…boy was it already a fun day, time to stuff our faces!
      pub2

      Décor:
      pub3 pub4 pub5
One of the first things you’ll notice in the main dining hall is all the stuffed heads of hunted animals. I read somewhere that the owner actually hunted and killed and had stuffed most of these critters…and some were purchased…it is an interesting site to behold…

      Eaters:
      pub6 pub7 pub8 pub9
Trigger, Alphatrion, Yumi, AF, Blue, and Lesie. We all had our game faces and were ready to do some serious damage.

The Most Important Part of the Menu, to us anyway…

      pub10

We went straight for the kill, as Yumi told us about the seafood in this joint.

      NOURISHMENT!

      pub11

First up were the delicious 2 Dozen Steamed Clams (24) that came with most of our meals. I don’t like clams…never have…and probably never will (though i do love clam chowder). Anyway, i read alot of the yelp reviewers that stated that they did not like clams either…but would recommend them here. So i’m a foodie, so i had to try…and believe you me…these are probably the best dang clams i’ve ever had. I mean they were ridiculously clean (only one had sand in it) and the were really sweet! I highly recommend Clams at this joint!

      pub12

      pub15

King Crab Legs w/Baked Potato (got it with fries instead): This was the second entree i ordered and shared with Alpha and Yumi. In the end you could tell the crab legs had been frozen, but they were pretty good and i would probably order them again. $19.95

      pub16

      pub13

2 Dozen Clams & Lobster w/ Baked Potato (i got fries with mine): The lobster was pretty big! and for 22 bucks this was a STEAL!!! (you can get it without the clams for 15 bucks!) the lobster was actually pretty good (i mean its no Maine lobster from Maine) but it will definitely hit the fix if needed. Also i’d like to note, the fries are really really good. $21.95

      pub14

Summation: The place is a little bit far out of the way, and i’d never purposely venture out here just to eat here…but i admit, going here after the shooting range is the perfect end to an awesome day that i can definitely make a ritual of. The food, the environment, the service were all quite excellent. I liked everything about the place and experience. And let’s not forget the great company i had to eat with. FAT NATION FOR LIFE!!!

      PH: 718-275-4947

      98-53 63rd Road

      JD!

I had posted this pizza joint last year and had not disclosed the address since it was so close to where i live. So since i’ve moved since that time, i can easily and readily post the location of this fabulously (still quite fabulous) Pizza Joint…i basically grew up with this pizza joint…though through the years the owners have switched and so has the name of the place…this place still always had good pizza…

      JD2

Decided it was greasy night, with pepperoni, sausage and mushroom…nothing healthy about this pizza topping selection…it always arrives piping hot and man oh man was it good….(i use to order this with spinach, but now i just add my own when it arrives)

      JD3

Summation: I love J&D’s. Their food is always made to order and really fresh. And for this kind of cheesey pizza, it always hits the spot. Their pasta dishes are really good too, and their buffalo wings definitely hit the fix just right. They’ve got some mean garlic knots, and service is always friendly. It’s family owned and family run. You can definitely taste the love in the food and service. I highly recommend this place.

(Their Sicilian is really good too, Lasagna is aite, chicken parm is great! fettuccini alfredo with shrimp is the bomb digs!, mozz sticks are aite, cheese steaks are pretty good, and of course, the regular cheese pies are the bomb digs!)

      Rego Park, NY 11374

      bagel1

The place i get bagels in my neighborhood. They make the bagels fresh in the back…i love watching as they bring out the freshly made bagels as they have all this smoke coming off of them…nothing better than fresh bagels in the morning… they also have great lox (smoked salmon) and they make their own cream cheeses. This place also brings back alot of memories as i use to go here in the mornings when i went to the elementary school across the street…the butter bagels, the cream cheese bagels were so cheap….

      Eaters of the Bagels:
      bagel2 bagel3
Yokhom, Azriha (whom seems like he’s always on his phone…but he’s really not…he just happens to be on it whenever pictures are taken of him), and Crazy being strangled by none other than MEWMEWKIMMAEE! (of course, the only way to stop her was to put food in front of her, see below pic)

      bagel4

      BAGELS!

      bagel5

MewMew got an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese and two slices of lox.

      bagel6

      bagel7

I got my favorite Poppy seed bagel with two slices of lox and veggie cream cheese. The crunchy outside crust of the bagel with the hot moist bread insides….causing the cream cheese to be so soft….

      bagel8

I love their veggie cream cheese cause the veggies are always so fresh and crunchy and no onions =P i like onions but just not in my cream cheese.

      bagel9

And my undying love for poppy seed, i LOVE poppy seed bagels…no idea why.

Summation: I can say that i’ve been going to this bagel place for well over 10 years, and though its gone through some bad times, i can vouch for it now…bagels are so goood here…i love all their fresh made items…and their mini bagels are awesome too. They sell everything they make in piece meal, so you can cater your own event with nice fresh warm bagels with your pic of cream cheeses.

I recommend their scallion cream cheese, regular cream cheese, lox cream cheese, their smoked lox, veggie cream cheese, and all of their bagels, which they will toast for you on demand.
