  • The Beacon Burger (Burger 3 of 82)

    Beacon Restaurant & Bar
    PH: 212-332-0500

    25 West 56th Street

    beacon1

Found out that a few of the burger joints on the “82 burger Challenge” were near me, so i decided to start up on that list. This place was probably the most interesting sounding as they had something called a “burger bar” so i had to come here and hit it up.

    The Burger Bar:

    beacon2

This is the burger bar, inwhich you sit and partake in their separate menu. man this area smelt great….unfortunately, due to all the conferences going on in the office, i didn’t have time to sit down and eat, instead had to order take out and go and pick it up (as they do not do delivery)

    The Food:

    beacon3

Right when i had arrived the food wasn’t ready, so they offered me a soda or beer on the house as i waited. =)

    beacon4

They package the food really well, and very organized. You can see the slots cut open for the fries so they stay crispy. (as you can see there are two orders, as my co-worker/college roommate decided to partake in this burger challenge fiasco).

    beacon5

The garlic fries filled my department with an amazing smell…within the next 15 minutes my entire department left to get food…..

    beacon6

First up are the garlic fries that come with the meals. you can see the huge slices of garlic that they cooked the fries with…the garlic fries were ridiculously good, and perfectly salted.

    beacon7

Not to mention they come with their own homemade ketchup; which was only ok…nothing special.

    beacon8

Pulled Suckling Pork Sandwich (Carolina vinegar Sauce, Spicy slaw, soft onion roll and garlic fries): the suckling pig is made fresh everyday. And you can see the onion cooked into the roll. $15.95

    beacon9

a nice cross section of the pulled suckling pork sandwich.

    beacon10

you can see the spicy slaw in the sandwich.

    beacon11

the flavoring was nice, and the spicy slaw accented it well…though at some parts i felt the sandwich was a little dry…

    beacon12

However, with the supplied carolina vinegar sauce added, the sandwich completely balanced out…and became perfect. of course dipping the garlic fries into this sauce was also really good.

    beacon13

The Beacon Burger (8 oz. Minam Ranch Certified Natural Black Angus, grilled red onion, lettuce, tomato, sweet pickles, soft onion roll and garlic fries +added swiss cheese and bacon.): Well packaged. smelt great, i couldn’t wait to dig in. $14.95 + 0.95 + $1.75 = $17.65

    beacon14

the grilled onions were absolutely amazing, as was the grilled tomater and lettuce was lettuce. but the sweet pickles worked really really well with the burger itself.

    beacon15

the bacon and the cheese accented the medium rare burger nicely and did not overpower it.

    beacon16

But one thing i did notice alot was the wood grilled burger…you could taste the smokiness from the wood fire grill that completely enhanced this burger experience.

    beacon17

Summation: Of course, i ended up mixing their homemade ketchup with the Carolina Vinegar sauce, that was ridonkulously good. I dipped everything into it; fries, burger, sandwich…fingers…etc..etc.

Don’t get me wrong, this was a really good burger, and i felt since the fries were so good the midtown price didn’t really bother me, but i wouldn’t consider this the best burger in midtown, but again, its a very good fucking burger, and i do recommend you try it! but not necessarily a MUST GO TO place for tourists.

The Side Door @ Beacon Restaurant and Bar

    Beacon Restaurant & Bar
    PH: 212-332-0500

    25 West 56th Street
    New York, NY 10019

    beacon1

Well if you look in the top picture you’ll notice a side door of Beacon’s open…and at first i paid it no mind, as i just thought they were taking the garbage out, but as i walked by i noticed…that don’t look like garbage…and there was a scrolling of a menu of some sort…so back at the office i asked the google god’s what manner of door was this portal to? and sure enough, and oddly enough my little sister’s blog came up (linkage) and i just had to try this side door operation.

    bcside1

which is literally the side door and selling some of their foods on the fly for cheap! or until they run out at least. checking the prices, it was pretty cheap, ESPECIALLY since we’re talking midtown here…so WHY NOT!?

    bcside2

    bcside3

My co-worker had become intrigued as well and wanted to partake in this consumption of side door food shtuff. We got one order hotdog, one order burger! LET THE FEASTING COMMENCE!!! (with every order you get chips and a drink)

    bcside4

    bcside5

Mr. Pink’s Double Dog – Two All – Beef Franks grilled to perfection, 100% beef hot dogs with parmesan, grilled onions, po-boy roll, and sweet pepper relish. I did not partake in this but from what i heard, it was aite, nothing spectacular. $10.00

    bcside6

    bcside7

Beacon’s Famous Wood Grilled Burger – With or without american cheese (i got it with), aged sirloin, grilled tomato, red onion, B&B pickles served on a grilled onion roll. It was actually pretty good! but not as good as the 18 dollar burger…which is good and bad and whatever. $10.00

    bcside8

you can see the thin onion ring cooked into the roll…pretty neat.

    bcside9

tasty juicy meat, good cheese…all in all pretty freaking good burger.

    bcside10

Summation: Now admittedly 10 bucks for a burger is alot, but it comes with chips and a HUGE TIGER TEA (or choice of beverage) to placate those that would complain as such. The tiger tea was really good and i highly recommend it. Alas they only do this in the summer time, which kind of makes sense…and i definitely look forward to eating this burger again and trying the two dogs. (though…for the dogs…yeah…maybe a little too pricey…) but i’ll let you know if i have a mouthgasm from these 2 100% beef franks.

    • My Yearly McRib

The Limited Time McRib at McDonald’s

      Any Participating McDonald’s

      McRib1

So every year McDonald’s unleashes the McRib on the unsuspecting public, as due to the limited supply of this ever so tasty sandwich, alot of people go after it. Maybe in essence cause its ‘while supplies last’ that make this sandwich ever more quested…but for me…it brings back nostalgia…from so many years ago…

      McRib2

I came into work one day only to find something sitting at my desk awaiting me…

      McRib3

upon closer inspection and a co-worker informing me he had gotten our department all McRibs. I HAVE THE BEST TEAM ON EARTH! WOOT!!!

      McRib4

The distinct McRib smell….mmmm it tantalizes the senses and reminds me of my younger years…

      McRib5

Upon opening it you can see it comes with raw onions, sweet pickles and a slathering of bbq sauce.

      McRib6

the pickles and raw onions actually accent the McRib really well.

      McRib7

CHOMP! and alas the fresh bun completes this delicious sandwich.

Summation: Feisty always told me that McDonald’s does this on purpose cause if the McRib was consistently on the menu, no one would buy it, so they bring it back every year. Whether that be true or not, i honestly can say i like the McRib sandwich…but since it does fulfill 41% of your daily requirement in sodium intake, i do not partake in it too much…as you will definitely feel the sodium kick even if you don’t have high blood pressure. And for 3 bucks, its not that bad of a deal.

*for those of you who would go “ew, you reviewed a fast food sandwich..” FUCK YOU. It says “I eat, I drink, you look” in my header. not “insert opinion here.” all those that wish to bash crash lash will be deleted and blocked. suckers.

    • Dinner from Halal Cart on 6th Ave & 53rd St.

      6th Ave & 53rd St.
(they are there from 7:30pm to 4:00am.)

      53rd Street and 6th Avenue
      New York, NY 10079

      streetmeat1

I was talking to mum the other day and the topic is almost always food, and i asked her if she’s ever had halal or chicken and rice. To my surprise, she said she’s never had it before, so i just had to go out and get her some to try! And what better place to get it than the famous guys on 53rd street and 6th Avenue (now of course you can go across the street where its the same vendor, selling the same food (which not for nothing, the line is starting to get long on that side too)…but for some reason, being on that line makes me feel like the food is gonna be better…and besides, its for mum, SO WHY NOT?!)

      streetmeat2

I waited about 30-45 minutes on line on a friday night. The line is always long, but it always moves pretty fast. so no worries.

      streetmeat3

The man with the stache and beard knows what he’s doing. They’ve got a pretty good system down. So the guy will ask you what would you like, say your order, and MAKE SURE if you want it to GO tell him TO GO, or he’ll just hand it to you READY TO EAT!.

      streetmeat4 streetmeat5
By the time i got it home, it was still nice and hot.

      streetmeat6

Lamb and Chicken Mix on Rice (comes with pita bread, salad, yogurt sauce and hot sauce.) $6.00

      streetmeat7

I just love getting the mix cause the pungent flavor of the lamb works well with the whole dish. Though some people that don’t like lamb, i’ve had them try this and end up liking it alot. Chances are, if you like the meat they normally use in a NY Gyro, you’ll like the lamb in this.

      streetmeat8

and of course the dish just wouldn’t be complete without the rice and veggies…i use the word veggies very loosely here. lol.

      streetmeat9

The awesome white sauce AKA yogurt sauce that they have is always an added plus…i feel it is almost a necessity to complete this wonderful ensemble. The white sauce really lubricates everything and brings it together in a symphony of the tickling of the senses. I always add a little hot sauce to it, VERY LITTLE and stir it in good as i like a little bit of a kick to it.

HOT SAUCE WARNING! I can eat VERY HOT/SPICY food, but if you put too much of this sauce, IT WILL KICK YOUR ASS! Too many times have i known visitors of my great city to DOUSE their chicken and rice with the hot sauce thinking they can totally take the heat, but i recommend TRYING A LITTLE BIT FIRST! before adding so much.

also the give and take about “to go” or staying there is if you stay there to eat, they have squirt bottles of the white sauce and hot sauce…so you can squirt as much as you want of either, whereas if you get it “to go” you’re limited to the tiny containers they give you…which i always ask for extra anyhow…

      streetmeat10

I love adding the white sauce, and some hot sauce and mixing it all together….sooooooooooooo gooooooooood *tear.

      streetmeat11

This place has always been consistent…I’ve never been let down no matter what time i get chicken and rice.

      streetmeat12

oh and lets not forget the really fresh and soft pita bread that they supply in your meal…its always nice to use it as a spoon as it melds really well with the chicken/lamb/rice/sauce combo all mixed up into one.

Summation: this has always been a MUST GO TO place if you come visit my city. You will not be let down. ’nuff said. CHEERS!!!

    • Quick Bite @ Skylight Diner

      Skylight Diner
      PH: 212-244-0395

      402 West 34th Street
      New York, NY 10001

      skyl1

So i was at NYC Comic Con 2010 with Cr, my little sister’s BF. We were famished from stomping through comic books and toys and statues and video games and cosplay hotties and…yeah you get the point…so we left comic con for a little to get some grub (cause we knew that the last hour on sunday is when all the deals and sales happen as alot of the vendors want to get rid of their stock so they don’t have to carry so much home. WOOT!) Since this was the area that Cr worked, he asked what i was craving for. I said i wouldn’t mind a sit down joint to grab a quick bite, so he recommended Skylight diner.

      skyl2

Tuna Salad Sandwich (choose your bread [white toast], add lettuce, tomato, cheese & condiments comes with cole slaw): I did not partake in this, but Cr, said it was good, but a little too much tuna salad for his preference. looked great and smelt great! $5.75

      skyl3

      skyl4
Cr also got a side of fries $3.50. these were aite..would have been better if they had cooked them longer and crisped the outside.
      skyl5
      Cr got Coke ($1.95),
      I got Coffee ($1.35).

      skyl6

Shrimp Cocktail (5 with dipping sauce): I was fiending for some shrimp cocktail, and i’ve been to many diners that had really good shrimp cocktail…this was not the case here…the shrimp cocktail was disgusting…and i totally got the negative fix..so bad that it made me not want to have any shrimp cocktail for a while…i think they gave me an extra one to try and make up for horrible looking, size, and taste were…but increasing nasty…is just nasty amplified….DO NOT GET THE SHRIMP COCKTAIL HERE. $11.00

      skyl7

      skyl8

Chicken Fingers (with honey mustard sauce): These were really freaking good. didn’t completely make up for the horrible shrimp cocktail, but this would definitely be something i could order here. $7.75

      skyl9

though most likely frozen, they knew how to fry it up to be really crispy on the outside…if only they did this with the fries.

      skyl10

best part was juicy insides…alot of joints that fry up frozen chicky fingers always ‘overdo’ it and the chicken innards end up as jerky…

      skyl11

Summation: over all i know there’s probably history about this place that i just don’t know about, but i can say the décor was nice and pleasing. I definitely wouldn’t mind making it a yearly thing when i go to comicon to come back to this place to stuff my face…but i definitely know next time i’ll probably hit on a burger or whatever else they are known for. WOOT!

*thanks go to Cr for getting me a sunday pass to go to comic con and rekindling my love of the ole comic con hustle and bustle. CHEERS!

    • Working Lunch @ Oms/B Rice Ball Cafe

      Oms/b
      PH: 212-922-9788

      156 East 45th Street
      New York, NY 10017

      omsb1

A fellow FatNation member stated it was my obligation to try out a famous rice ball joint in my neck of the woods…which turned out to be OMS/B. As i perused the site to figure out what to order, my supervisor (who’s also in FatNation) saw me gandering at OMS/B and told me that he’s ordered from them before and his wife LOVES that place…and wouldn’t mind to get in on this food venture. Another co-worker overheard and wanted in also…as we looked at flickr pics of the different rice balls…we were sold…and decided to order it for lunch the next day (as my supervisor informed us, their shtuff runs out quick, as by afternoon, none of the really good rice balls are left…)

here’s a direct link to their menu on their site. Click here.

      omsb2 omsb3

      The Food:

      omsb4

Deluxe Set (4 Rice Balls + 4 Kinds of Appetizers + Pickes + Any soup [only available from 11:30am-2pm]): Of course its chef’s choice, which kind of makes sense…or everyone would be picking the most expensive appetizers and rice balls. Food took some time to get to us, as they had informed us they were doing a catering gig, but the food arrived hot, and the delivery girl apologized for taking so long. $12.00

      omsb5

      The Soup:
      omsb6 omsb7
the soup of the day was a very good corn chowder. not overly thick, NOR overly salty…just perfect, with lots of great veggies that weren’t overcooked. I’m really looking forward to trying their new england clam chowder if i ever get the chance.

      omsb8

The Deluxe Set really looked quite colorful, and i loved how they used dividers to divvy up the food.

      The Appetizers:

      omsb9

chicken meatball – its never been one of the things i liked…just like tako yaki, i usually steer clear of this item at any yakitori joints i’m at…cause i just feel that chicken doesn’t make a good meatball. The flavor and sesame seeds were really nice, and i’m almost positive that for those of you that like chicken meatballs, this will give any of the yakitori joints a run for their money.

      omsb10

      omsb11 omsb12
edamame – run of the mill soybeans. good. text

      omsb13
a nice fibrous salad, sort of reminded me of a fibrous banchan. this was good.
      omsb14
i’m thinking they make their own daikon, cause it was really good.

      omsb15 omsb16
A nice little green salad with assorted veggies. it was fresh and tasty. I did not try the dressing, as i haven’t been adding any kind of dressing to my salads.

      omsb17 omsb18
veggie spring roll – crispy outside, nice veggies on the inside. nothing to be wow’d about. but it was good.

      The Extra:
      omsb19 omsb20
Fried Chicken Appetizer – this was really good. crispy outside, moist meat on the inside. flavorful crunch and well marinated chicken. great combo punch in your mouth. $0.80

      The Riceballs:

      omsb21

I’ve looked at the menu several times, and for the life of me i cannot figure out which rice ball this one is. (supervisor stated that they sometimes do make rolls that aren’t on the menu) so maybe this was one of these? it was like fatty pork with some spinach maybe? i could not figure out the green for the life of me. But i kid you not, when i tell you, this was really fcking good.

      omsb22

      omsb23 omsb24
Miso Sesame Rice Croquette (deep fried rice croquette, with Miso Sesame Sauce) – at first i thought this was like a cried rice ball with curry on top. but once you bite into it, no cumin. It was ok. not my favorite…didn’t wow me at allz.

      omsb25

Spicy Tuna (Tuna with Chili Mayonnaise filled inside and on top) – This was really good. great spicy tuna…and definitely had a nice kick to it. Definitely one of the memorable rice balls.

      omsb26

      omsb27

Football Rice (mixed vegetable vinegar rice wrapped in sweet taste fried tofu) – this was probably the best out of all the riceballs. I really really liked this one, it was filled with flavor and for some reason the taste was very nostalgic…I ran out of it before i could put my finger as to what memory it was rekindling…i guess i’ll just have to eat more to remember…

      omsb28

Summation: The Deluxe set is definitely a great introduction to OMS/B (12 bucks isn’t that bad for that much food), and i definitely look forward to ordering from them again, but i will definitely be more specific in what i’m getting.

Just some of the mother watering names of some of these bad ass rice balls are enough to make you crave some; Spicy Scallop Rice Ball, Lobster Salad Rice Ball, Crab Salad Rice Ball, Fried Octopus Rice Ball, Gorgeous Football Rice…and the list just goes on and on…

I think that i will definitely be trying every single item on their menu, so look for future posts of pics and identities of everything that is specifically listed on their menu. CHEERS!!!

Since the last time i ordered everything was preset and i couldn’t pick exactly which riceballs i wanted, i just had to try the other very interesting sounding riceballs offered at this joint. Here’s the second round.

here’s a direct link to their menu on their site.

    omsbee1

They must really love us, cause we found a ton of pocky and gummies dumped into our bag.

    omsbee2

Luckily my VP knows the innerworkings of this joint pretty well and took what i wanted and changed it to two Set A’s (which ended up saving me money! WOOT!) thank god for upper management! lol

    omsbee3

2 Set As - Any 3 rice balls + any soup (soups not pictured) $7.25

    omsbee4

Shrimp Pop Corn – this was actually really good, the shrimp was still a little crispy and the sauce and leaf accented it well.

    omsbee5

Lobster Salad – of course i had to try this and see how it was. too much sauce for my taste, but it was pretty good…but as for the price and the amount, i’ll most likely pass on this next time.

    omsbee6

Fried Octopus – this was actually really good, quite surprising.

    omsbee7

Gorgeous Football Rice (Salmon Roe) – the Gorgeous Football Rice was so good the first time around, i wanted to try its distant cousin with salmon roe…which was pretty much the same…just with salmon roe…go figure. =P still pretty good.

    omsbee8
    Curry Beef Ball -
it was ok. won’t be getting it again. =P
    omsbee9
    Eel -
was also ok…won’t be getting it again…unless i’m at the place to get it.

    omsbee10

Shrimp Tempura - this was pretty good. i bet it would have been even better had i eaten it at the store. very impressive flavors that accented the tempura really well.

    omsbee11

    omsbee12

Wasabi Shrimp – this was something i saw, and i love wasabi, i can eat globs of it with nothing…love the burn. This is a very interesting onigiri…if you don’t like wasabi, you’ll hate this…the wasabi flavor is pretty strong but not over powering where everyone will get teary eye…but i liked it. Will definitely get this again.

    omsbee13

Summation: ultimately i like this place, though i don’t and won’t feel like ordering once a week…maybe once every few months. my review still stands, i hold this place in good light, and won’t mind trying some of their other special rice balls. woot! CHEERS!

      Hide-Chan Ramen

Well, Crazy had shown me this pic of “Mega Ton Ramen” and asked if i would eat that…I said HELL YEAH! and doing a little more research, i actually found a video of actually how big it is (no need to watch the whole video as it just keeps looping). And i was down to try it. So on our lunch break, Alpha and I went over to check out out. EPIC FAIL, as we were informed there that the MEGA TON is only served as dinner…but we were there anyway, so we wanted to try the Ramen. Funniest thing is, Alpha and I always pass by this place on our way home, and i’ve always made a mental note of wanting to try this place…and not to mention the Japanese bar that’s next door…lol…and now i guess fate would smack me into this joint…woot!

      Décor:
      hidec2 hidec3 hidec4
Its a pretty cozy set up, its a really nice structured joint. the Wood trim and décor are very warm and friendly, as are the staff.

      Menu:
      hidec5
      click on
      the menu
      for a closer look
      hidec6a
Important to notice this tag, as you need to pick the firmness of your noodles and broth richness.

      Grub:

      hidec7

Hakata Char Siu Ramen (Traditional original pork based broth ramen since 1963, served with extra volumes of the sliced pork marinated with soy sauce and brown sugar): This actually came pretty fast and PIPING HOT. I got mine with a Seasoned Boiled Egg +$1. $10.75 + $1.00 = $11.75

      hidec8

now one of the first things you will notice when your ramen arrives is the globules of fat in the soup. This is not a mistake, this is how Hide-Chan serves their ramen. I can actually understand how alot of people might find this a tad unappetizing, but if you can get past the thought and the texture of fat globs, you’re in for quite a flavorful surprise.

      hidec9

the kikurage mushrooms were really really good.

      hidec10

I got medium (al dente) for how cooked my noodles would be. The noodles were really good, definitely different from the other ramen joints i’ve been to, can’t quite put my finger on it, but it was good.

      hidec11

I had gotten the rich broth, and will try medium and light the next time i come here, as i will definitely be returning for the MEGA TON RAMEN…sorry…don’t know why it feels necessary to type that all in caps…lol.

      hidec12

      hidec13

Summation: AGAIN be forewarned at the globules of fat in your broth…the broth was very flavorful, and of course being able to choose the fat content in the soup has to help you with your choices. Again, pay attention when you’re ordering, cause if you don’t inform the waiter/waitress of your noodle and broth choices you’ll by default get Medium (al Dente) and Rich Broth.

I was actually quite surprised that my tongue and mouth were not alot oiler or greasier from eating this. I’m definitely going back, and i’m definitely bringing Fat Nation to eat here.

      CHEERS!

Well i had scouted out this joint last week and really wanted to try the Mega Ton Ramen. So i decided to hold a quick and dirty fat nation meeting there and, while getting to defeat a Mega Ton, also get the opinion of the place from other fat nation members…

unfortunately, as we ordered, the waitress informed us that they no longer make the Mega Ton Ramen, and there is no more fat globules in the broth, as they have changed the broth…you also can no longer pick the “level of cookedness” of your noodles, everything is al dente.

Its a pretty cozy set up, its a really nice structured joint. the Wood trim and décor are very warm and friendly, as are the staff.

new menu, which i had forgotten taken a picture of…again too bummed at no Mega Ton Ramen.

    Fat Nation Attendees:

Tonkotsu Miso Ramen (Tonkotsu miso sauce broth with thick wavy noodles): this looked and smelt great, the girls loved their ramen, and were pleased with it. However, they also stated that nothing about it stood out. $10.50

    hidech5

Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen (traditional original pork based broth ramen since 1963): I was so bummed that i didn’t even realize what i had ordered…i really should have tried either the spicy ramen or even the soba like dish…fail on my end…as you can tell i was uber bummed…the ramen was good, clear broth no fat globules. $9.50

Summation: As previously stated, there is no more Mega Ton Ramen and no more Fat Globules in the soup….which i felt was the main appeal about this joint…the ramen now is pretty much the same as most other joints…and i’d say Oh Taisho’s ramen is better…however, i guess if time and chance permit, i’ll be back to try their “soba” and their spicy ramens.

as to the reasoning as to the disappearance of the fat globs and Mega Ton Ramen, the waitress simply said was cause they changed the broth.

    *shrug.

I was fiending for some lasagna at work, and i’ve still yet to find a good lasagna joint in midtown, so a co-worker recommended that i hit up on Belmora…so why not?

      bmora2.jpg

      bmora3.jpg

      Food came rather fast…woo hoo!

      bmora4.jpg

Green Salad (small, honey mustard dressing): nice fresh salad, which was pretty good…got to have my veggies. $3.50

      bmora5.jpg

Home-Made Meat Lasagna (served with italian bread): This came piping hot…$7.75

      bmora6.jpg

It smelt great and i was eager to dig into it. I was very happy that they didn’t skimp on ingredients here.

      bmora7

The cheese was very gooey, and the pasta was not over cooked…however…the taste was not to my liking.

Summation: The lasagna was just too acidic…i got really bad heart burn afterwards, and not to mention eating it…it just didn’t taste that great…I was very disappointed…and the salad was actually better than the lasagna…the best lasagna i’ve had is from the mom and pop place near my house…they actually make it right when you order it….oh wellz…i guess back to the drawing board on this one.

So after watching Inception on IMAX and getting super nauseated from it, i didn’t think i’d be able to handle any more philly cheese steaks…so my cohort gave me the option of pho…and i figured some good pho soup would totally hit the spot…balance my stomach and my nauseated mind…though the first place we attempted to go to was closed, this joint was surefire open. sweeeeet.

      Décor:

Business Hours, awesome arcarde machines…totally brought back the memories…and the decor was really nice.

the chairs, the paintings, even the lights melded well together to this very relaxing nice restaurant.

its all the little touches… or veggies came for our dishes, and i ordered some iced coffee…mmmm cafe du monde…

      pho3810.jpg

I forgot the name of this dish, but i’m guessing its the Bun Bo Hue (Cay) Beef Noodle Soup – Hue Style (spicy) since its seemingly the only noodle dish thats spicy. $6.50 Though it was not what my cohort had they had said it was really good.

      pho3811.jpg

      pho3812.jpg

Pho Tai, Gan (Steak, Tendon Noodle Soup with meatballs added): This was quite surprisingly good. (L) $6.25

      pho3813.jpg

Added my bean sprouts and buried them in my soup.

      pho3814.jpg

      beef balls were really good.

      pho3815.jpg

as was the onions, broth and noodles.

      pho3816.jpg

one thing i noticed was that they don’t give you alot of steak, nor is the soup very hot.

      pho3817.jpg

Kem Chien (Fried Ice Cream, we got Vanilla): fried right when you ordered it. $3.50
      pho3818.jpg pho3819.jpg pho3820.jpg
this was actually really good when it was nice and hot and the ‘skin’ was crispy, however once it cooled the skin turned somewhat soggy…and not so great tasting…recommendation? EAT IT QUICK! lol

      pho3821.jpg

Summation: I had gotten a large bowl order…and was not happy as they kind of skimp you…either that or their large bowl is kind of small…they don’t give you much steak or tendons…(kinda skimpy on the ingredients)…and steak was overcooked…however, what really saved the dish was the freshness of the rice noodles in the pho dish. also the broth was really good…but it would have been the best if the broth was way hotter and the meat way more raw…their noodles are definitely better than my favorite place, but because it loses points in every other category….they don’t even hold a candle to Pho Bang in Elmhurst…but if i’m in that neck of the woods, and am fiending for some pho…this spot would definitely be a quick fix.

      CHEERS!
